Visiting
Kralendijk, Bonaire/Carlos Pueblo
This is the
final leg of this southern Caribbean tour, Kralendijk is the capital city
of the
island nation of Bonaire, in the Kingdom of Netherlands. Very beautiful
and better
off to answer my own question. Crystal clear of the sea water and
famous reef
coral deposit on the sea floor and all for the tourism, hotels,
restaurants,
gift shops, and casinos. I walked toward the residential area near
the old town
on the right direction of the pier. Those single dwellings are
similar to
Houston suburban neighborhood might have been the same builders.
I brother
Yancy used to have a rental house street name Bonaire and there is
a school
district called Klein on northwest Houston just two examples.
Gradually, I
came to approach the main street of the old town toward a tall
building of
a catholic church. I passed by three Chinese restaurants on my way
and stopped
at two opened and chat with the owners. They were from the same
county of
the American Cantonese, Taishan area not far from Hong Kong yet
different
spoken language. There are about 350 of them at Bonaire. One of the
owner
cracked a joke on me when he learned that I was original from Taiwan.
He said that
Taiwan under new President was in turmoil and hopeless and I was
offended again
and tried to give him a political lesson of democracy; however,
he was so
busy to open up his business for the day. I left to the church instead.
The
Cathedral was open to public, front and side doors. I went inside and felt
the history
of the island, Spain, Netherlands, England, and back to Netherlands.
I was taking
a nap outside in the front and local drivers appreciated my sincerity
and honked
at me with the sign of cross. Mark and Barb Hacking of Toronto,
Canada,
coming by from a march to a hardware store for Arnie, our mutual adopted
daughter,
for a part, and a small gift for Michelle’s one year old son at home. They
are so
considerate and do good deed and I am glad to be in law. Barb is keeping in
tough with
me while Mark is now at the Dominican Republic to help a hurricane
damaged
family.
I didn’t
feel sorry for myself at the end of my cruise trip this time because that I
realized the
money was well spent and I gained so much in my life with happiness
with so many
wonderful people. Jui Liu, one of my favorite Chinese daughters, told
me that they
had had such good time with a local Chinese restaurant owner, the
forth one I
assumed, who took them for a ride to visit local scenery and treated
them with
fresh fish stir fry with sour vegetable to calm down their stomach after
long
journey.
