兩個中國之實證/莊峻華

來美國後,不可避免關心台灣問題,先是蔣家之獨裁統治,然後
就是台灣之國家定位,我心中一直如此結論,中國人均曰,世界
上僅有一個中國,中國說北京之共產中華人民共合國是中國,台
灣說是台北之中華民國才是中國,各說各話,各自表述,前日,
星航電郵上機文件,上詢國籍,我看到的台灣,是台灣,中國,
中國是中華人民共合國,這是北京政權之傑作,全球航空界都不
欣然,但也同意,仔細思考,這也完全符合我之長年判斷,世界
上,的確是有兩個中國,魏晉後是有南北朝,五代後有五胡亂華
,而且是十國,面積幅員都不及台灣,是謂台灣自古不屬中國,
只不過曾是中國殖民地,抑或是仍舊是中華民國之殖民地耳。

一夜,台大歷史系陳翠蓮教授,來休市同鄉會館,講演二二八,
很清楚提出,中國軍隊如何在戰後,進入台灣,如何稱呼自己,
擊敗日本是美國,絕對非中國,不巧中國國共內戰,亂兵中,蔣
介石之軍隊,撤退佔領台灣,台灣在蔣家第二代死亡後,有些改
變,但基本上仍是中華民國之佔領地,仍舊是另一個中國,台灣
之護照通行全球,取代幾個傳統外交承認國,故曰非正常國家也

明年,台灣有總統之大選,台灣國定位問題,終於浮出檯面,可
以正式討論,兩個中國也是北京之決策,星航表格為例,台灣面
對中國七十年之武赫實彈威脅,也無能為力,倒是現在有政論名
嘴,提出美軍之看法曰,台灣人不願為北京中國所統治,美軍尊
重,而且有類似保衛南中國海之決心,台灣之海域更大,更符合
美國利益,美國可以賣武器給台灣自衛,就是台灣關係法,台灣
選民要自重,投票選總統,不能選要歸順中國者,柯文哲市長若
參選,選他,不然賴清德院長,最不行,蔡英文總統,也比中國
人可靠的多,真的喜歡中國國民黨人,就支持王金平院長,一日
台灣被中國人當水果賣掉,真是後悔莫及,君知共產黨不承認私
有土地權?除奴隸勞工機會,還能提供如何至富機會?中國人統
治中國幾千年,有比歐美日諸國好?中國人都不想住中國,移民
外國爭先恐後,推翻現今共產政權是上策。

英國行2019/莊峻華

明晚搭機到英國,旅行四週,暫別全球讀友,我在五月二十返美,
將續巴拿馬行報告,還有新之英國行。我在抵曼徹斯特市後,就往
北行,過湖區,到北蘇格蘭,海港待渡輪,參訪哈理斯特威特毛紡
工廠,然後看否能繼續北上席特蘭島,2017年我們返美路過。

經愛丁堡南下,停留幾座城鎮,半年前逗留美憶,再回倫敦。從倫
敦南下普利茅斯,附近參觀懸掛石塊,返美前,斟酌是否能拜望泰
僧勞博士。

15 day Panama Canal Transit Cruise/Carlos Pueblo

It was an unexpected purchase of this 15 day Panama Canal Transit Cruise
trip three day before it’s embark from Miami and a week before my long
scheduled land trip to the U.K. The re-position mega ship, Bliss, sailed through
the straight between Cuba and Dominican Republic into the Caribbean Sea.
After a stop at Catagena, Columbia, continued to knock on the door step of
the Canal. We entered the 1st lock at 7:00 am to wait for the rise of water level
to the mark of 20, I assumed that was 20 meters deep of the lock, then a powerful
small tug boat hull the huge ship forward. 10 hours 7 locks to complete the entire
28 miles or 48 km length. At the Pacific end, we could see several huge containers
ships were waiting on the lake to enter the Canal. There are two canals available
for the time being, the old one was built by the U.S. and put into use in 1914 after
a purchase of right to build from French in 1904. The U.S. returned the Canal
Authority to the Panamanian Government in 1977 and there was an expansion
of a new canal right by the old one in 2016 to hold larger ship to pass. The Bliss
is the 1st of this kind to pass through on her maiden voyage in 2018.

After the exit of the Canal, the ship sailed along the western coast of the Pacific
In the Central and the North America through Caldera of Costa Rica; Quetzal of
Guatemala; Acapulco, Mazatlan, and  Cabo San Lucas of Mexico before the end
Port of Los Angeles, California. The Bliss would stay at LA for a couple of weeks
to do the Mexican routs before San Francisco and finally Seattle, Washington
for the Alaska routes during the late spring and early fall. We took advantage of
the special design new ship for Alaska glaciers  view to see the Canal comfortably
in 10 hours three meals and nap included.

I found two long missed adopted daughters on board right away due to my
information gathering skill. I have added additional 45 daughters to my total
list of 250 plus daughters on board of this cruise line. I am pretty sure that I can
run into some of them in any of the new ship which I have never been on. I
am appreciated of these friendships and keep our together photos on my desk top
computer at home as pretty flowers in a garden.

I have utilized my perk of latitude status this time including dinners with two of
my daughters, six time of free drinking of wine, free laundry once, and a behind
the scene tour of this new ship, etc.

15日巴拿馬運河行/莊峻華

這是一意外旅行,我在出發三日前,購得船機票等,完成旅行巴拿馬
運河宿願,極樂號從邁阿密港,駛向古巴多明尼加,到加勒比海,在
哥倫比亞卡達痕那港停靠白日,又夜行西南,翌日凌晨抵達運河口,
開始階梯式之過河到太平洋彼岸,沒有再舒適之十小時觀賞,如此宏
偉之工程,出運河後,沿太平洋海岸北上,船停三國六港,最後抵達
加州洛杉磯港。

因此巨型豪華郵輪,一共20層甲板,上下階梯,十分吃力,因此我
就取消清晨甲板散步習慣,偶爾上甲板,走道上有些給費餐廳之,
延申座位席,類似西歐城市氣氛,尤其是夜晚,這些乘客,真是利用
上機會,歐美人講究飲食品質和氣氛,購票前,可以選擇餐劵和飲劵
優待,比起臨時逛入點菜廉價,然而郵輪餐廳,真是舉世第一。

船上客務服務,仍舊是郵輪界品質,世界一流,雖是客滿,我仍有充
份機會,認識許多新友,包括四十餘位愛女,如今,在此郵輪公司旗
下,我已經認收250位愛女,因為她們年輕美貌,學識教育,工作努
力,親切有禮,氣質非凡,所以我與彼等合照後,收藏在電腦上留念
,像是置放在美麗之花園。

一上船,我就結集情報,發現兩位寶玉號愛女,愛莎和恬珂在船上,
有位黎明號經理也認出我,我一直探聽我之愛女何在?因為郵輪經常
將他們調船服務,所以我先詢問他們過去服務船隻,有經驗者,常是
舊日同事,於是我們開始親切,而且很快就是新愛女,而且我強調她
們而後,就是姊妹,這次我認了一位高階愛女,喬瑟爾,是三線半,
旅館部副總經理,我提到珍珠號另一高階,大廳服務經理,她們相識
,而且有連繫。

我已經習慣郵輪旅行方式,也習慣船上伙食,中午排隊領一小碗湯麵
,這是簡易速食,我再到自助餐櫃台,添加一些魚肉,還有熱湯,郵
輪廚房不敢惹事,似乎不放味精,而且也排除濃厚膏湯,味道和一般
中餐廳有別。我在郵輪上有六次,免費飲酒機會,都是盡興,有兩次
邀請愛女同行,值得回憶,有愛女風聞,也預定下次。

After Cartagena, Columbia overnight sail, the ship entered the famous
Panama Canal. Passing through the 1st lock with its own force, and waiting
for the rise of water level from the nearby water reservoir, all with fundamental
physic channel effect principle, a small powerful tug boat would tow the huge
ship forward to the 2nd lock. 168,028 Gross Tons plus the weight of 4000 passengers,
1700 ship staff, and their luggage, etc.  We could see the old Canal of the original
edition of 1904 on the right and the new expansion of 2016 on the path. It takes
10 hours and 1 million dollars fee to complete the pass. Huge containerships are
waiting on both entrance on the Atlantic and the Pacific. I proudly pointed out
two container ships from Taiwan, Yang Ming and Evergreen. The U.S. purchased
the right to continue to build the Canal from a French company in 1904, finished
the great construction in 1904, put in good use for a 9000 sea miles short cut. In
1977. the U.S. yielded the right of the Panama Transit Authority to the Panama
Government. After the expansion, actually there are two Canals now, the newer
one is for heavier ships while the old one still for the regular ships.

The Bliss, our cruise ship, is designed for the Alaska route; therefore, many
Observation area are available both inside and outside on board. I watched the
passing on Deck 15 Observation Lounge with U shape huge windows and shouted
many photos with my two cameras, Pentax and Lumix. The project is amazing
engineering. It has made the ports of Chile and Argentina on the Straight of
Magellan and Drake Passage from global significant to diminished area in business.
I saw some of them become the penitentiary centers for both nations.

The Panama Canal Transit Cruise is only a minor part of the usage of this waterway.
The most ships passing through are for the trade of Asia and North America. We
ship the U.S. products to the Asia and import Asian goods to our market for
consumption. The Panama Canal has been existed for 105 years and is still going
very strong.

四月三日清晨,極樂號緩緩駛入箸名之巴拿馬運河,一個個水閘過
關,先是巨輪進入,引進湖水,浮起船身,這艘郵輪空重168028
,加上四千乘客,一千七百船員,行李食物15日體重等,由一小拖
船馬力,遷過閘門,進入第二關,這是單行道,大西洋和太平洋兩
岸入口,已經有巨型輪船等候,巴拿馬運河,有新舊兩水道,舊水
道無法容納,極樂號這種巨型郵輪,稍小郵輪,仍舊使用原始運河
,在新道之北側,是東北往西南向,全長約48哩長,包括閘,湖,
和彎等長,一共費時10小時,過河費一次一百萬美金。

極樂號是德國製造新船,專門為阿拉斯加冰洲海岸風景設計,船上
室內外,提供許多觀賞風景位置,可站,可座,可躺,到處都是舒
適位置,陽台臥室,豪華餐廳,頂層甲板三溫暖,應有盡有,包君
滿意,這室內考慮,實在是為阿拉斯加酷冷著想。巴拿馬運河,原
是法國公司理想,美國在1904年開始購得續建運河工程,此間有段
歷史,還涉及哥倫比亞國,1914年開始營運,為兩大海洋走捷徑,
省下約九千浬海路,我在2017年,搭船經國麥哲倫海峽和德瑞克渡
,沿岸海港風貌,都是20世紀前建築,從全球航點,淪為南美區域
海港。

我看到陽明號和長榮號貨櫃輪船,西洋乘客尚在辨識船號,我已高呼
兩輪為台灣商船,他們都是準備駛入運河,貨櫃輪船,帶來美國貿易
之繁榮,美國人非常自信,會做生意,巴拿馬運河,早在1977年就歸
還巴拿馬國,沒有甚麼國土神聖,不可分割之謬論,1898年美西戰爭
,搶來之西班牙殖民地,菲律賓和古巴,都已獨立,沒有神聖不神聖。

郵輪贈我兩張大相片,一張是證書,一張是航程紀念,我會詳述我之
心得,相片中唯一女高級經理,喬瑟爾。谷斯曼,旅館副總,三線半
,是我愛女,官階最高,曾停靠基隆港,喜愛基隆,最近隨上海之喜
悅號,調回美國。

Another interesting schedule on days at sea is the language lessons
including Tagalog, Spanish, French, Serbian, Chinese, and Afrikan. The
instructors are staff of the cruise activity department effectively
providing the initial interest for many passengers. I have had some
experience of such lessons from my previous cruises; therefore, I am
able to respond Tagalog lesson while Spanish and French are my life
time ambition to learn. Chinese, Spanish, and French are three of the
major languages of hundreds of million while if connected to Slavic
Russian, Serbian can be huge as well. Otherwise, Serbian and Afrikan
are limit to the Balkan Peninsula and South African of less than 9 million
each. For that lessons, I went to review some classical English movies
of the Boer Wars and the Zulu Wars, etc. Afrikan is a 1600, a.d. Dutch, a
part of Western German language.

The class starts at 12:45 pm for 30 minutes and 1:15 pm for the second
class of another 30 minutes, some of them with hand out sheet. I gather
them with my language folders. I find that it is very interesting that some
of the cruise staff like or can speak Japanese. They all become my adopted
daughters. They either with prior working experience in Japan or intended
to work in that country later. The ship is huge like a typical U.S. size of
township with multi nationals speaking different languages. I am still working
on my Japanese and Spanish and the cruise is the ideal to take my learning
into practice.

Due to the difficulty of pronouncing my name in Kanji spelling, I first added
Charles as my middle name at the beginning while officially on naturalization
procedure yet the last name was pretty difficult as well. I explain it to a lady
clerk in Barcelona, Spain that Chuang is the village in English and she responds
it as pueblo in Spanish. Since then, I have used Carlos Pueblo as my unofficial
name and pretended to be a Filipino from Sibu, Philippines. Sibuya is another
major language in that country which I identify as my home town and I don’t
speak.

I always suspect that languages can lead the trace of human immigration. I
suspect that the Pacific Islanders have had the same origin of their ancestors
and yet I don’t think that I can prove it. It is too late for me and is not important
after all. I am just enjoying the language which I learn every day as much as I can.

船上語言課/莊峻華

也是海上日節目,郵輪活動部,安排在大廳舉辦幾種語言課,因
為此艘巨輪,有超過四千乘客,海上日無處可去,所以結集一大
批觀眾,我因對學習語言,有特殊喜愛,因此我每節參與,例如
西班牙語,菲律賓塔卡洛語,法語,瑟比亞語,和南非之阿非利
刊語,也有中文普通話,三年前在寶玉號,有船員教導馬來語,
我一直都能船上蒙混過日,像菲語,馬來語,法語,和西語,在
全球都有上億人口流通,當然中文更臻十餘億,但非我之問題也,
阿非利刊語和瑟比亞語,使用者僅千萬人不到,一為十七世紀荷
蘭語,一為斯拉夫語系一支,通俄羅斯語,如此有趣矣。

我上過如此船上,菲語和西語課多次,而且很多菲律賓愛女,必
要時可借用西語,蓋菲語中有些西語在內使用,西語我已在識字
班,而且已經能分辨出一些動詞變化,菲語其次,但會話前面幾
句和外貌,似可蒙騙過關,例如我有西文姓名,於是自稱宿霧是
故鄉,常被追問西布亞語,是宿霧當地語言,於是我就顧左右而
言他曰,彼為我心靈之故鄉,台灣平埔族語言煙沒幾世紀,據言
與菲語接近,只是無法考古而已,推斷仍合邏輯。

課是12:45 pm首節,1:15 pm緊接次節,每語兩班,西語進度稍
快,蓋西語在美國社會較普遍,然後2:00 pm,我就登15層甲板
上圍棋課,和先生聊天棋藝,我像是過名士生活,船上誤認我為
日本人,爭先與我日語,我看貌似拉丁族,就開始西語103句,
下船回家,上最後一節日文課,始知免費西語課也結束,先生回
墨西哥渡假去也。

The cruise activity department arranged bridge lessons on Los Lobos Restaurant
on Deck 8 for all the at sea days starting at 9:00 am for the beginners , 10:00 am
for the intermediate and a real game at 1:00 pm. The instructor is a fellow passenger
from the big Island of Hawaii, Patrick Kalaus and his wife. There were two group of
attendants and various players worldwide attended. After the first lessons for both
classes, I decided to continue for the rest of 7 lessons on both. He handed out several
pages during the entire lessons and were very helpful. I did play some bridge during
my life yet I only learned few trick to the required number 4 player. I have never got
into counting point for the game and mostly never know how to properly open a bit
or respond to a bit.

We must open a bid to inform our partner how good is at our hands. AKQJ cards
represent 4321 points count. He emphasizes heart and spade for the more game
points. 12-19 points to open the bid from 1H/1S according to 5+ major cards while
1C/1D represent 3+ minor cards. 1 non trump means we have 20+ points at hands.
There are total 40 points on all hands and he counts distribution points and dummy
points with suit while he points it out like the Peso value  to the US Dollar. If you have
6-9 points at hands, you must respond, the sheet showed you how according to the
points count for various low, medium, and high points. This will show everyone what
you have and inform your partner a better picture. It is all very logical. I keep all his
handout and make a folder to join and practice at home with players at the community
center. I didn’t participate the games in the afternoon due to a conflict with my language
lessons at the Atrium and the Japanese Go lessons at 2:00 pm at the Observation lounge.

One night at a sharing table at the Manhattan Restaurant, I ran into the couple and had had
a very nice dinner. I mentioned an unique flower in Hawaii to them yet I forgot the name.
When I came home and checked the Google and sent him the name, the Protea, for his
consideration to grow such beautiful flower at his economic farm. They have a coffee farm
and a named brand coffee, Kolena Coffee, for the sale on internet. They also have had rooms
rental business. He is the head person of the bridge on the big Island and traveling to Oahu
Island for the bridge contest. He knows what I am talking of the Matsumoto icy desert.

This bridge lessons bring me back my found memory of my childhood. When I was 10 years
old, my eldest sister Mary and I moved to Huwei with my Dad for his new transferred job
assignment. We stayed at a big house hosted 4 young engineers. I watched them playing
bridges at night and I shuffled the finished cards for them. I still remember their names and
one of them, Mr. Yang Ching Lai, is still keeping the correspondence with me. He is retired
and residing at Antioch, California.

郵輪安排海上日橋牌課,早上九時開始初級班,十時中級班,下午一時
為正式牌局,都在山貓餐廳舉行,這餐廳白天不營業,晚上收費墨西哥
德州料理,我們授課先生,派翠克。卡勞斯夫婦,來自大夏威夷島,是
位咖啡農場主人,而且也是大島橋牌賽主持人,講解深入簡出,我參加
六次,每次兩節,分別有不同聽眾,而且有英國高手,前來比較英美叫
牌法,先生準備講義,而且深奧處,有橋牌書實例講評,我有業餘橋牌
經驗,完全是三缺一,夥伴多有耐性,至今完全未有此好。

牌分妥,發牌者開始叫牌,必需手上有12-19點,AKQJ分別是4321點,
手上有13張牌,注意是否有紅桃和黑桃五張,然後開叫,夥伴必需有6
-9點始得回叫呼應,回叫方式,可明示手上點數,和主牌張數,不然就
是帕斯,如此他反覆說明六節,如果手上有20點以上,要先叫2黑梅,
如果是15-17點,開叫到1無切牌,這種叫法,美國一致,所以一開叫,
一對應,四人均悉各家點數和主牌分配,他有一張講義,如何回應,如
何先發制人,讓對手置入苦境,還有一種加倍叫法,我真需要拿講義,
到社區活動中心,和這些美國退休人打橋牌。

講到橋牌之因緣,應該追朔到1968年年初,大姊萬里和我先行虎尾,與
父親擠在一處長級宿舍之一室,與糖廠中四位單身工程師同居,這四位工
程師,晚上就有牌局,我在旁觀戰,並幫他們洗牌,當年尚不知所以然也
,後來這四位工程師,我都還清楚之記得他們,台大化工之賴洋卿,後來
在沙烏地工作,已退休來美,是橋牌高手,朱復慶是農學院農化,後來官
拜台鹽總廠長,陳瑞雄台大電機,隨二工場遷移至泰國,林春宗台大農化
,離開台糖後,回台從事農藥進口。我初中時,值迷軟式網球運動,而且
也無心橋藝,像圍棋橋牌,均未培養成一生嗜好。

一夜,我到大餐廳晚餐,被安排與卡勞斯夫婦同桌,我們拍照留念,談上
許多夏威夷州之軼事,我先後旅行夏威夷多次,租車坐巴士,大島我搭美
國驕傲號,停泊兩港,非常有美憶,我和派翠克談到歐胡島,我較熟悉,
,而且我也很仔細參觀茂宜島和可愛島,各有兩次經驗,我還是喜愛夏威
夷,我提到那可口之紅豆冰,他也知道我在講甚麼,回家後我査谷歌,找
到普洛蒂亞花名,這是一種移植夏威夷茂宜島,非常成功之南非花朵,長
在灌木上,花朵像是尼佛座前伴花,也像蓮花,35年前住家前超市有售,
一朵約是百元美金,茂宜花圃,可以郵遞。

One afternoon I was wondering around the observation room on Deck 15
up to the 3rd top level of this mega ship. I found an old gentleman studying
a Japanese Go map and I stopped and watch. Mr. Ted Terpstra was invited
by the cruise to teach Go on board at sea days. He invited me to play with
him and I was shy to admit that I was never be able to play. He gave me a
quick lesson right away and gave me a book, The Way to Go by Karl Baker.
He is the founder and owner of the 50 years San Diego Go Club. I briefly
explained my admiration of Go game and a found memory of a solid wood
Go table at home when I was a kid. It was a gift left behind to my Dad for
his friendship with his Japanese principal in Taipei Technology School. He
could not bring all his belonging back to Japan after 1945. My Dad couldn’t
play Go game either and the table had been served as a small desk for our
homework throughout our school years.

In order to practice the game with him, he yield 10 stones to me for the 1st
Lesson. Go game is occupying spaces and surrounding the opponent’s stones
in order to take prisoners. Once blocking all liberties of the opponent’s stone,
you can take the prisoner by calling Atari, means surrounding or a hit to warn
the opponent. Once both pass their movie, the game is over and ready to count
the occupying territory less the prisoner stones. After coming home, I do check
some of the Go terminology such as Dame, the stone between two groups; Ko
means repeated capture and the liberty is Katsuro. A two eyes formation is a
guaranty of live territory without any thread of Atari.

I did make some progress during my six or so lessons, the Sensei’s yield decreased
from 10 stones to five and then 4. I still can’t figure out some determined placement
on the corner edge to form a double eyes which is several step ahead of my thinking.
He encourages me to play more game like more practice more to make progress. I
mention to him my old college classmate, Chih Ho Su, Ph.D. in Chemistry, is very found
of Go and very introvert person. He went to his room to check on Su’s Dan, ranking in
class of Go, and very much like to play him on the internet.

He mentioned my interest of Go to his fellow passengers from San Diego and later
There were two ladies joined up for lessons. One day at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a
friend of theirs sailed his yacht to meet them and treated them for lunch. I took a
lot of photos to the black yacht with a helicopter on board. These are American riches.
From my Go lessons, I remember two stories on the classical Chinese literature about
two famous legend, one is about a lesson of the war strategy while the other one is
about a Go game of a premier while foreign invader was defeated and he kept on
playing and later found his wooden shoe heel was broken due to nervous.
