Preventive health insurance/ Carlos Pueblo

Texas Health Spring personnel called in the morning to check on recent

activities with my Medicare. Recent health fair in the clinic was not a mere

good policy of the clinic but a mandate of the insurance company. I must

complete the process or I cannot continue their coverage. Of course,  I

appreciated a preventive medicine; therefore, I went to that health fair

right after I came back from a trip. The fair arranged a young physician in

charge of my first screening with an eye specialist. After one week, I

received three letters from the clinic for the follow up appointments:

a 4 days 10 hours diabetes class, a colonoscopy, and an additional eyes

examination. I, then, attended the first diabetes class, scheduled and

completed a colonoscopy, and completed first eye examination and

waiting for the left eye measurement  for a cataract removal. It all happens

in a matter of weeks.

Colonoscopy procedure is done in a facility near by my house. There are

29 specialists who can perform 100 procedures a day.  It looks very

efficient. There are four pages of questions asked and signed by me from

the clinic, specialist office , front desk of the procedure office, on a surgical

bed, and finally before the sedation. Checking the identification are three

times during the entire procedure, the clinic, the specialist’s office and the

procedure center office. This is to avoid medical insurance fraud.

It is very interesting that medicare budget is more than 100 billion US dollars

a year. There are some activities involving merger among big insurance

carriers. It indicates that there is a profit and economic matter which can not

be ignored. There is also news on the headline about a recent medicare

fraud for 700 million in several US cities including Houston involving fake

procedures etc., therefore, you can see how careful the insurance companies

and the providers are.

Diabetes patients need to be concerned with eyes syndrome; therefore, eyes

examination is required and closely monitored. Eyes pressure, the sugar crystal

appears on the tiny vessels on the eyes ball or not, etc. Eyes surgeon likes to

remove my left eye’s cataract and I am appreciated so do my opponents on

the tennis courts.
