Triangular
Relations among Taiwan, China, and the U.S. Seminar/Carlos Pueblo
I took buses
to a downtown hotel for a seminar sponsored by the University
of St.
Thomas about the triangular relations among Taiwan, China, and the
United
States yesterday from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. It had been hard for me
yet quite
interesting. Taiwan National Government grants the University for
its Taiwan
& East Asia Studies Program to hold the annual seminar to do
research the
such relationship in order to strengthen Taiwan’s national
security. I
have been interested in the politic of these three nations in all my
life;
therefore, it has been a big event to me as well. The program was consisted
of three
panel presentations and one round table discussion with three panelists
for question
and answer, and finally two key note speeches at a former dinner
with q &
a followed. Let me start it with which I am delighted for my question
which I always
like to make it known for people concerned.
After the
first four presentations, all of them thesis like of the issue s of Taiwan,
a lady made
a comment about Chinese brag of progress which got my attention
and I
followed up her question by complimented a presenter who brought up the
Falkland
Islands conflict in 1982. I pointed it out the British government was forced
to send
troops and fleet across Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean to fight Argentina
Junta Government
of which the conflict initiated. It was all because of a vote of
rejection from
a couple thousands residents of Falkland Islands. The conflict was
the end of
Junta dictatorship in Argentina. Secondly, I pointed out Chi Chi Tongjian
literally Comprehensive
Mirror in aid of Governance for a story of a northern Emperor
to invade the
south and ended it up perished instead. While China dares to invade
Taiwan may
result the Chinese to get rid of the Red Dynasty. I am very optimistic that
Taiwan shall
be as an independent nation forever. I
heard an applause from the back
from my
fellow Austin Taiwan Institute friends. Later in his response, this professor
Chan of the
University of Colorado responded to the question that he didn’t intend to
such complicated
implication and I apologized to him at lunch and hoped that China
won’t get
mad at him.
He did raise
another question of the Outer Mongolia to the Round Table in regard to
the holly
and in-separate territory of China. Ambassador Burghardt did answer the
question by
indicating that Mao Tze-tong sign off Out Mongolia after expelling Chiang
Kai-sek from
China, as a matter of fact, Chiang signed off Outer Mongolia right after
winning of
Japan under Stalin’s pressure. Russia has been in European influence of
territory
treaty; therefore, the Russian leaders always insult China new leaders to
acknowledge
the territory north of Manchuria east to the Pacific Ocean including
current day Petropavlovsk,
six time larger that Taiwan. I learned it from an Australian
Taiwanese of
China expert when Hu was in power. Two Treaties were signed during
the beginning
and end of Manchu Dynasty to part such territory.
