Getting connected with the Line/Carlos Pueblo

My old classmate Henry Wei invites me to get connected with our college class on my phone with the Line. First, I get two helps to down load the Line app to my i-phone, then my son Arthur finds that I have already had an account. Very soon, Henry sends an invitation and I join the group. I since then am able to read all the chat among our group of classmates. I am still required to learn how to input the Kanji character to the Line in order to join the chat, otherwise, I must compose in English. It is for the 50^th anniversary of our college graduation and we like to have a class reunion somewhere and sometime next year.

Before 2013, I had made several trips back to Taiwan to visit my family and friends. Some of us had had lunches together like reunions. I appreciate it very much. Since last year, I send a piece of my year end writing to Taiwan as a greeting with some result which I like it very much. Friends from the college are very special and interesting. Now, we are on several parts of the world.

I must learn how to type my Kanji character on i-phone key board and send my piece to the Line. Before that high tech skill matured, I shall still use e-mail to send my message and hope that someone would help me to transfer it to the Line.

前兩日，北郊之宏義兄來話，邀請加入大學同窗連線，我鼓起勇氣，找了兩人幫忙設定，然後接受宏義邀請，終於連到線，隨時電話可以接到訊息，我的困難是，如何寫漢字在線上？我只會注音符號輸入，而且習慣桌型電腦鍵盤，我若在桌型寫完短文，又要如何轉入手機線上，還是我的高科技困難，尚需同學諒解，但我已經開始收到簡訊，多謝宏義鼓勵。

我是有計劃，隨時回國，整理牙齒，就是假牙，需要一個月以上時間，上次我是在永和市頂新站附近租一個月，現在房東收回己用，我想安排到日本等候假牙製作，所以在台灣舉行同學會，我都可以參加，來美國乘坐郵輪，我也可已參加，我很高興可以和老同窗見面，上幾次返台探親，承蒙治貞兄安排，與同學聚餐，非常興奮，時常懷念。

去年，蒙瑞耀兄轉發我的問候信，收到昆明兄回信，但不小心，將其信址弄丟，不知昆明兄東莞事業，受到肺炎影響否？我們在休士頓有校友會，是詹怡姊主持，非常成功，亞平大公子，在休市開業，春興兄會邀我們聚餐，澤安兄約已退休，也可連絡到，我在校友會，可遇見甲班的大美人國宏姊，她是駐顏有術，非常恭喜。志和兄連絡較難，必要時，可以請其女公ㄗ海倫幫忙傳遞，我有海倫住址。

Recently, I open a college history book volume 2 from the Civil War to present. I read from 1850 to 1945 and close the book to write my report. The development of the current day United States can be back track to the late 15^th century; however, the most dramatically change is the last 150 years or so, after the Civil War. The Civil War has been involving the slave from Africa as a reason and I believe that is still fighting in the country. It has never ended.

Once there is an issue occurred at a time, it is called the populism, i.e. the race issue, the economic issue, the labor issue, and equal right issue, etc. Those who are determined to solve the issues through the U.S. system are called the progressive party or the progressive leader. The progressive is in compare with the conservative or we call the progressive is the liberal. In the current day U.S. politic, the Democrat is the progressive while the Republican is the conservative. Almost 100 years ago, it was just reversed. Lincoln’s Republican Party is more like the current day Democratic Party. At least they attempted to solve the racial injustice.

There is a new aggressive development according to the Darwinism called the Social Darwinism to ask governments to step in to help the unfitted. According to the Darwinism, there are fitted and unfitted people in the world. An able government should try to help the weak part of the society. In consequence, governments need new revenue to finance the cost. This is why the federal income tax, the various local taxes are established during this time. The citizen demands more of services from governments and it costs money. There is a defined diffidence between two political parties.

I am also impressed with the book to explain the gold standard, the silver standard, and my understanding of the base of the gross domestic product figure to make the circulation of the U.S. currency. I was once confused of the Treasury can print the dollar at will such as the current pandemic impact fund I and coming II. It is based on the GDP percentage not by the gold reserve or the silver reserve.

最近我開始讀美國歷史教科書，這是第二冊，從南北戰爭到出書當時，我看到二戰結束，就封書送回書櫃，所以是1850年後之一百年，獲益匪淺，増加許多了解，讓我稍加描述。美國目前政治略分兩黨，共和黨和民主黨，保守和進取之別，這是美國創國以來之兩派，最保守之保皇黨，已經被驅逐到加拿大。保守黨主張金本位，限制美金流動量，扼阻通貨膨脹，農民希望稍有通貨膨脹，取得一些利潤，聊以謀生，所以有銀本位之介入，後來金銀本位都無法為幣制之標準。

達爾文曰適者與不適者，或曰社會達爾文學說，保守派美國人，無所謂社會上之不適者，只想維持現狀，無視於貧窮不適者，因為政府並非為照顧窮人而設立，政府最好無為，像是中國道家之理想，但社會不均，仍舊揮之不去，因此就有政治理想，要介入改善，這些理想，就是進步派，社會重要議題，就是大孚眾望者，中文中之顯學，或曰民粹，像是工會，黑權，和女權等運動。我觀察美國政治，民主黨主張政府應該積極介入社會問題，不惜増加富人稅收，共和黨則主張，不適者本當淘汰，政府有限資源，優先有序，國防，治安，和經濟等，約是一百餘年前之兩黨理想，剛好與現在相反，一切都是人為。

書中介紹美國例屆總統，有為者留下政績政策，許多均尚存在，像社會安全保險法，銀行法，證券交易法，都是老羅斯福任內政績，後來之老人健保，這是詹森總統之政績，還有奧巴瑪健保法，都是為解決健康保險需要之議題，都是民主黨任內，經國會通過，實行到現在之政策，共和黨一直反對，因為支出龐大，赤字過多。近代很多總統任內，毫無建樹，在歷史觀點，是浪費執政之機會，造福國家社會，我只是一喜愛歷史之讀者，我慶幸生活在此民主自由之環境，欣賞美國政治，研究美國歷史。

Promoting the senior tennis/Carlos Pueblo

People enjoy playing tennis because that it is an exercise good for the heart. After two sets double, we can sweat a lot and also good for the rest of that day. Of course, we need to know how to play tennis, have the time, and feel the joy, etc. We, four of us, finally find a court to play in June this year and set to play three times a week. Now, there are additional three players joining us and increasing two more meets a week. I expect another four neighbors to join us and hopefully we can have fully used our court every day.

I have learned to change my attitude toward the game now. I no longer feel that I must win the set but get the exercise first. Throughout the years, I always try to win every point and complain some of my partner for making unforced error so often. Now, I appreciate with one who has played so patiently toward the weaker and older players on the game in order to make it more interesting. That is a good manner and a good sportsman.

I picked up tennis when I was at 7^th grade by playing at our local courts with many teen agers of my age. It was a Japanese style of tennis with the bamboo racket and a rubber ball. After coming to the United States, it was very handy for me to get into the regular tennis with leather ball and a different kind of racket, from the wood to the metal, and then the graphite. I can make the adjustment easily. I came back to play tennis in 1996 when a neighbor encouraged me to join a man’s league. Since then, I have been back to the exercises continually.

There is a group of senior tennis gathering at my old subdivision courts. They meet on Monday morning and players are retired seniors. After the games, they would gather at a pavilion to drink beers and eat snakes, etc. What a good life it is. Perhaps after the vaccine of the corona virus is developed and the medicine, we can have a little bit of social activity after the tennis.

最近有四位老人，加入我們在西村之網球局，原先我們僅是兩次一週，現在是一週五次球局，我的理想是每日有一球局，網球雙打非常有趣，兩局下來，渾身是汗，炙熱夏天已過，再來幾個月，天氣溫和，就是冬天稍冷也無妨，可以穿著暖和一些。

我們六月開始使用西村球場後，我開始安排舊日隊長和一隊友，前來網球局，他們都年長於我，於是我請殷偉修兄陪伴，他球技甚佳，可以耐心輸球，像是教練一般，兩位老人甚為感激，提議再増加一次球局，於是我們再安排一次週二晨會，殷與我當晚尚有一例會，有一鄰居也可以參加，所以我們可以解決遲到早退困難，因為有一位會遲到，一位只能打一局。

週二夜，有一年輕太太，在女嬰入睡後，可以加入球局，她家就在球場正對面，另外有三位鄰居均表示興趣，我希望再安排幾局，讓他們可以恢復網球運動，如此甚具意義，老人有固定之戶外活動，幫助心跳，幫助睡眠，多種健身運動，我在茶花女街舊居，有幾位老者網球局，每週一次，球局後就在俱樂部私人涼亭，喝啤酒聊天，有九十歲者。回虎尾高中，球友每日網球局，蔚為風氣，有上班做生意者，皆善用清晨活動，是甚佳習慣。

The other day, I went to pick a pomelo from my neighbor’s yard. Amy came along with me because that she felt curious. I used a broken metal head of a trimmer to make a hook to pull down the fruit. After testing the fruit, I was very disappointment because that it was dry yet not sour. My neighbor told me that was not ripe otherwise it should be sweet. It reminds me an ancient story in China about the orange south of the Huai River.

It was happened about the time of Confucius more than 2,000 years ago in the same territory of current day Shan Tung Province, China. One day, Premier Yen of Kingdom Chi was visiting a neighbor Kingdom Chu down to the south current day Wuhan, the outbreak of the corona virus. Both Chi and Chu were much stronger and larger kingdoms than Confucius’ Lu Kingdom. Both two were two of the big five out of a thousand small local noble in the Chou Dynasty. The Chu’s King brought in a theft from Chi and questioned Yen what happened of the Chi citizen were all criminals. This is one of the intelligent answers recorded on the Yen’s History which is taught at the college freshman Chinese language art class. He says that the same orange tree grows orange south of the Huai River, the border of these this two Kingdoms while grows to Tse north of the Huai River. Tse is a smaller in size and bitter fruit can only serve as a herb medicine. It implies the difference environment between the two kingdoms. The theft can be a good citizen at his home.

I think it over and quit my thought of growing two young plants which the owner provides me to grow on my back yard. I am too old to wait for the tree to bear fruits. Amy sees the leaves and recognizes the one which has been on our yard for years. We do have one pomelo tree. I wonder how come the other citric fruit trees are doing very well in Houston area of the Texas weather. It must be some other reasons for my disappointment.

昨日攜長桿赴鄰居家採文旦，我到是中秋節，文旦是熟，但牽落一顆，剖皮而食，果實乾澀不酸，屋主告知，需等年底，我心納悶，是否為江南之橘，淮北為枳？但幾乎橘科在休市附近，生長均佳，我看到有株橘科，在荷西公園步徑道旁，結實累累，未有人採取，試嚐之，則其味甚酸，我道是書中之枳也，此文旦皮硬厚食小，徒有型也，屋主曰子來自星加坡，我想怕是氣候與環境使然耳。

淮南為橘，淮北為枳，語自宴子春秋，我溫習一下這耳熟目染之中國古典智慧，氣候和環境，是可扮演成長角色，所以近代國家重視學校教育，也有家長不敢送子女到一些學校，台灣過去，需要通過考試，取得入學校之許可，家長不希望子女為枳。

於是我就死掉採文旦之心，屋主見我如此踟心，早就準備兩株文旦幼苗，供我種植，愛美見到枝葉形狀曰，我家後院是有一株，為淑琴姊所贈，是道地麻豆文旦，已有八年歷史，我懷疑尚有機會採到果實，況且後院該角落，陽光也不足。

The other morning I was accompanying my neighbor Kathy to check on several yards in the subdivision. She is on the selection of the yard of the month committee of the homeowner association board. She wants to look at a street on the out skirt of the neighborhood. We turned south at a corner on another busy street at another border and I found bamboo trees hanging up inside the tall fence. I decide to find the home owner to get the permission to dig the bamboo shoot. Picking something has become my hobbit now to spend too much of my time and refresh my childhood dream. I like bamboo shoot and its taste on the home cooking. I do locate the house with those bamboo trees.

I was born at a mountain township in the central of Taiwan with plenty of bamboos. It was a common dish on our table daily. My mother used to cook a pot of bamboo shoot with pig bones. After my ten years old, we moved to another township on the plain in the southwest of Taiwan. The bamboo shoot dishes became scarce due to the cost I assumed. Japanese eat bamboo shoot salad with the mayonnaise which is very impressing to me. Each time I run into a bamboo grove, I always think of digging the bamboo shoot. As a matter of fact, I do watch some programs about the bamboo trees management on the You tube.

I shall ask the owner when she passes by my house for walk. They may like to see what I am doing to dig the bamboo shoot. After she says OK, I shall prepare a flat stiff scraper as my tool. Amy likes me to get some bamboo sticks for her yard design next year.

大雨後，陪鄰居凱西逛社區幾條街，她是那位有近七百英畝農莊者，被辛蒂拉去當社區美麗庭院評審員，我藉機遊說幾家，我們都是清晨散步者，我們走過北端大街後，右轉南下，沿著邊界高籬，找到香蕉株，香蕉已為人砍下，我發現一叢綠竹林，竹桿有手腕粗，甚是難見，於是立刻想起採竹筍，我先需要找到屋主，取得許可，然後準備採竹筍，伊莉女主人戴安娜聞訊曰，她也想旁觀，我正想何不移植一株，到她聖百娜河口別墅？她聞言更喜，這些都市女士，聞採果採竹等，均甚喜悅，都想觀看，今日我將採文旦，愛美要跟，克莉斯也要幫忙扶梯，她是幫忙介紹屋主者。

我出生台灣埔里，是座盆地山鎮，就像網誌上之中國四川，小時後吃甚多竹筍，即使搬到虎尾，虎尾也產竹筍甚多，採竹筍則未有經驗，僅觀網誌介紹耳。社區有近五百戶人家，巨樹都種，何況果株？剛好我在享受有限人生歲月，還老還童，憑幼年記憶，分享美國鄰居老太太。

戴安娜曰，吃過竹筍沙拉，非常喜歡，我想到超市偶見，沙拉用真空包裝竹筍，要價甚高，我想到日本人之白醬竹筍，確是可口，或是白醬蘆筍，均甚箸名，我最喜歡竹筍肉骨湯，我們台灣人吃飯喝湯，中國人善長竹筍炒肉絲，牛肉絲或豬肉絲均美。

愛美要我想辦法，帶回一兩根長竹為後院絲瓜長豆架，我以為她良心發現，利用竹桿曬衣，就像我們幼年，我從小就需洗服曬衣服，竹桿也可以採樹梢絲瓜白柚和芒果等。

My neighbor Majid, an Iranian American, has a pomelo tree with many fruits hanging on the top. I ask his next door neighbor Chris to introduce me to pick the pomelo. I explain to Chris that it is one of the festive items for the festival. I am welcome to call him for the harvest. This pomelo brings back my good memory in my childhood.

I was born at Puli, a mountain township in the central Taiwan. There was a pink pomelo tree in our front yard with plenty of fruits each year. During the spring, their flowers have attracted so many beautiful butterflies which we gave them names related to the tree. The pomelo is one of the citric fruits closed to the grape fruit in the U.S. yet not as juice as it. When it is ripe, the fruit has a unique fragrant. We cut off the head part and carefully slice down the knife and peel off the layer to make a hat on our heat to play. The rest is like to eat the tangerine.

After 10 years old, we moved to another part of Taiwan on the southwest. There were two white pomelo trees also with plenty of fruits. I found my way to harvest them with a long bamboo stick. I was in charge of fruits trees on our yard until I left town for my high school study in the capital city. The pomelo which I mention about is special for the Moon festival. It is smaller with an egg shape. Several years ago when I visited my sister at my hometown, I noticed a paper box of pomelos. I instantly cut the fruit and made a hat for myself. They were a gift given to my brother-in-law from his old college friend who grew the fruit.

In order to pick the pomelo, I introduce the Moon festival to several of our American neighbors. Some of them have heard of the Moon cake and most of them have never heard of the pomelo. He planted it from a seed long time ago.

鄰居一棵文旦樹，結實多年，我僅注意到另株葡萄柚，因果實無人採收，掛在樹上過年，春天花開，年前果實仍在，甚為可惜，待我認出文旦後，我就開始尋找鄰居關係，影響屋主人，讓我採文旦，我解釋給這些美國太太，文旦和中秋節，這屋主是位伊朗裔美國人，很快我就間接取得許可，因為他也多半贈人，葡萄柚都任凋落。

我與柚樹有深緣，小時候埔里宿舍前院有粉紅柚株，每年結實累累，家裏就我喜歡採柚，而且是在十歲前之人生，粉紅柚花，引來許多美麗之蝴蝶，柚仔蝶公與柚仔蝶母，我都可分辨，文旦則是過中秋節之禮品，基本上我並非特別喜食柚科水果，有印像則是剝皮為帽當玩具。搬到虎尾後，前後院各有白柚一株，果實甜美，一直持續到出外讀高中後。

幾年前回虎尾探親，萬里大姊家，有一大紙箱柚，為姊夫同學農場產品，我情不自禁，剝開一粒，此柚有濃郁柚香，而且非常可口，剛好遇到知音，平常過年廣東人商店，桌前擺上文旦，以示吉祥。中秋節快到，我就介紹女鄰居，到香港超市，購買月餅，就像耶誕節胡瓜派餅一般，說不定今年此文旦，可撐到那時，至少旁株葡萄柚，年底必成熟。

Recent unexpected activities of the house make several payments by credit cards. The plumber requires half of the payment in the front and the second half when the job is done. The credit card payment is very convenient for me to make such arrangement. The plumber gets his money in time, the bank makes a quick loan advanced and I pay the bank immediately. There are at least three transactions with some fee involved.

Amy makes her grocery shopping with the credit card payment and seldom uses cash. She has her own office to make all payments. We still use some traditional checks and internet banking to make payments. It is much safer than the traditional cash payments.

I also am used to get a short term cash loan from the credit card. The card bank offers 0% interest loan for a year or less with a 3% fee. I take advantage of such loan as my cash flow for different purposes. Early this year, I made two credit card loans for about $37,000 with 3% fee with a term of a year. I make a house loan to Michelle for 10 years with an interest to help her to purchase a rental house. I make payments every month for a year and rearrange funds to pay off the loans before the 0% interest term ends.

People know that you can make a new car purchase with the credit card. The dealer will allow you to pay up to a limit because of the fee involved. It is not wise to make the installment for the credit card debt because that the interest is too high. Even if I have a 0% interest loan from the credit card, it is still not a good deal because I pay the fee 3% up to the front and usually I pay the loan off much earlier than the term ends. The 3% fee is not an annual term actually if you calculate it. The bank is much smarter than us every way.

使用信用卡，已經是習慣，因此不常使用現金，避免丟錢煩惱，而且銀行有書面月報，提供年度支出參考，非常方便。我看信用卡之使用，漸漸取代支票，一起取代現金，有一項中國人常使用之手機付錢方式，在美國則是少見，美國是有現金卡，就是在銀行帳戶扣錢，我不曾使用過。

上次修理水管，是意外支出，修理師傅先要一半費用，完工後再交一半，我就信用卡支付，非常迅速方便，隨後，我在銀行帳戶轉帳，支付信用卡，幾日內，師傅拿到錢，信用卡也領到我的錢，師傅公司有收入，信用卡銀行也收到短期貸款金，我也解決一項大困難，促進社會繁榮。

愛美買菜，也用信用卡，每個月隨時在銀行帳戶，支付各項支出，所以她也有一書房，和元兒共用，元兒在我樓上書房，也睡沙發，我在書房電腦，支付信用卡債，目前我只剩一筆，明年三月到期之信用卡債，年初我交百分之三手續費給信用卡，借錢來貸款給琳兒購屋出租，我有把握一年還清，這就是我的變錢，無中生有，我算過如此借貸信用卡，對我有利，銀行也喜歡我這種有信用者。

使用信用卡，比較使用現金安全，店家瞬時可以獲知有無領錢，買賣得以成交，節省許多時間和麻煩，我的生活中，漸漸不聞家庭倒閉新聞，美國聰明，建立一信用制度，銀行可以有效運用，繁榮業務，現在連保險公司，都開始接受信用卡交費。

The sudden discharge of water from the busted pipe made me uneasy for the monthly water bill. Finally, we receive the monthly bill which is covered those two day’s leak. It is about two hundred dollars more than the previous billing and I am informed that the city will reimburse me half of that amount. I am on my procedure to apply for such help.

I call the water work number on the billing statement. The office is closed. Again I try and it is an hour’s waiting to listen to a repeated telephone recording and the phone is cut off exactly at the end of an hour waiting. I am very stubborn and believe that there are many customers are ahead of me therefore I try again and fail to reach a live operator. It is such a frustrating. Amy hands me a form from the city website for the application. That is it and I don’t really need to ask for the information on the phone. I instantly fill the form and with all paper work attached to mail it to the city. Amy pays the bill via the internet payment. We hope to get a hundred dollars refund from the city within 90 days according to the form.

I have a feeling that the city is getting rid of the telephone service for the customer except for a general 311 and 911. 911 for the public safety while 311 is for the issue other than the public safety. I sense the change recently due to some needs for both. I understand that such change can save some money and still solve the issue efficiently. It is alright for me to spend so much time to know it because that I have plenty of time available to use.

As an insurance agent, I find out now that I have spent very much of my time to explain the policy. What is covered and what is not and the customer can’t remember that much. Now, the insurance company wants the agent to concentrate in selling and let the service do by the toll free number which makes more sense. It cut the expanse and lower the operation cost.

The city takes note of our request from 311 and passes it to the proper unit to make the service. That is it and there is no need to employ so many workers for such simple task. I believe that is an efficient city management.

這個月，我有一水管破裂，大量漏水問題，終於水費到來，漏水約一萬三千加侖，多了兩百餘美元，我原來就準備上訴市政府，申請補助，修理師傅告知，檢附收據，約可得補助一半，就是一百餘元，於是我就按照電話，打給市府，市府轉給自來水辦公室，我聽完三次錄音帶，均被切斷電話，到樓上上網，又無法輸入使用人祕碼帳號，真是氣餒，愛美聞訊，在市府網頁，找到一申請表，我填妥加上收據相片，準備元兒簽字後寄出，九十日內有答案。

現在之市政府，沒有職員接電話，一切都是按電話錄音排隊，我深覺有趣，市府有一總機，三一一接案，立案後就有專人處理，等不及可以再打電話催促，無需解釋，像這次申請漏水費補助，有一定表格，填上幾處空白，就甚清楚，再來就是收據相片，師傅在車上，都已轉寄給我，銀貨兩迄，我也付清信用卡，非常迅速，市府前來關水和開水，都在三天內，水也未漏甚多。

現在之政府，尤其地方政府，都需要有效管理，減少不必要之支出，如此，減少行政成本，我原來不清楚一月水費多少，現在看到水費，始知愛美控制甚佳，我聽幾小時電話錄音，始知庭院所種植之，聖奧古斯汀草皮，是一種節水草皮，市府所推薦，平常我兩週割一次草皮，讓草皮充份成長，樹蔭下草皮可以減少水汽揮發，不易枯黃，省水之道也，而且我收集雨水，回收逆滲透淨水器排水，沖洗抽水馬桶，是不方便，但也有環保作用，已成習慣。

Recently, I have encountered an unexpected family expenditure such as a busted pipe and a long time plumbing issue. I am lucky because that I have made some preparation to withdraw money from my 401k retirement fund to pay off two credit cards debt, otherwise I will be stretched. Later on, I summarize this kind of expense this such as sharing the back yard fence, cutting down a rodded tree, the co-payment of Arthur’s cataract procedure, etc. I am really not a rich person as I have thought myself.

Living in a single dwelling house is a dream comes true. I don’t have a mortgage and all what I am required is to pay the annual real estate tax for the house, to pay monthly due for the electricity, water, phones, internet fee, and food cost, etc. They are all under my calculation except the unexpected expenditure. I have some regular saving for the federal income tax payment and my Medicare plan B is deducted from my social security payment and I think that I am in good shape.

I feel the pain especially when the fall back of the stock market. My retirement portfolio is down a bit from the summer high. I am very fortunate that I don’t have luxury living and I manage my cost to the minimum. Due to the pandemic, I don’t go to the cruise this year and I feel alright. What the unexpected family expenditure is really covered by the saving of the cost of the cruise trip.

自中國之武漢肺炎肆虐以來，我停止所有旅行，以為省下一些錢，結果水管破裂，漏了三天水，修理兩處水管問題，花上四千美元，甚為心疼，幸好我今年多領一些退休金，準備償還兩筆信用卡債，不然就捉襟見肘，愛美幫我算一下，今年雖然平靜無事，我們確實也有一些意外之支出，像是鄰居要我們均攤籬笆，一千美元，老樹幹腐朽落地，砍掉全株七百美元，庭院填木㞕四百美元，幫元兒付白內障手術自備款一千元等等，這些都是平常生活費，年度固定地方稅，和聯邦所得稅等之外，家庭支出。

如果身體健康，無不良嗜好，家庭支出是有限，難不倒我，就是加上這些意外支出，也不是問題，只不過是不習慣而已。我僅需使用社會安全年金，就可以應付每月支出，稅金全靠退休金給付，我們沒有房屋貸款，房屋不到老朽，不加修葺，我們鮮少餐館用餐，口饞我就等特價時，買兩塊牛排回家，愛美膽固醇高，不食牛排。

我現在始憶得，我曾專文描述我之節儉生活，實在無需重復，節約儲蓄是我之生活習慣，我不受外界觀念所影響，最奢侈之享受，就是郵輪旅行，現在郵輪停業，我更可省下旅行支出。

The other day, I went up to Austin to visit Michelle and skipped two days tennis. I made two adjustments to make up the exercises. After a week, the rest of our group tells me that it is too much for them to play in a week. I understand and also feel very good because that my daily exercises really help my old body; therefore, I recommend them to invest more of their time into exercises regularly.

After the Wuhan corona virus lock down, I have increased my morning walk distance and applied a key to the swimming pool and the tennis court of our subdivision in order to add the swimming and tennis to my daily exercises. I have accumulated 4-5 hours exercises daily.  I do take a long nap in between making sure that my old body can take such heavy task. Hands and feet are covered with tan.

I walk slowly for about 5 miles a day from 5:30 am to 8:30 am or a little bit later if I have pet dogs as walking company. It is not boring at all because that some dogs are already get up and remind me that they have noticed my passing by. If it is a tennis morning, I cut short of my walk and swimming distance in order to make it through continually. I therefore consider myself in better shape than my tennis partners.

There are three neighbors approaching me for joining us in tennis. I welcome them and advise them if they can inform me a day earlier, I can release one of our players a day for rest. My old captain and an old tennis body come to play with us after six months and they do have a good time. They are 80 and 75 years old.

I am very touched when my fellow morning walker approaching me for inviting an old neighbor to join our tennis play. She says that this gentleman has lost his old tennis bodies in the subdivision due to the departure. He likes to play tennis again. Of course, I welcome him and I shall leave my phone number in his mail box for him to call on me.

幾日來，與網球伴討論身題之鍛鍊，對老年人之重要，我在武漢新冠肺炎肆虐後，開始調整平日鍛鍊身體之課程，半年後發現，立即奏效，網球夥伴開始不支，開始無法每日連續球局，不是手背疼痛，就是膝蓋，我突然發現，清晨散步和游泳，幫忙體力甚巨，就是稍有維恙，藥物幫助，恢復甚快。

我開始邀請舊日球伴，恢復網球運動，這週六開始，史單那老隊長和羅傑斯，開始來社區打網球，他們年紀稍大於我，也有三位鄰居，表示興趣，其中一位，經過兩位散步太太介紹，因為球友離去，已經多年中斷網球，我歡迎他們隨時加入球局，於是我告訴他們時間表，因為我們可以輪流休息，如果提前告知，甚至可以安排一人休假。

清晨散步，非常溫和，若是走上幾哩路，也是滿身大汗，表示心臟尚佳，對四肢五官都有幫助，而且可以曬太陽，増進體力。

今年始體會此社區之好處，有網球場，有游泳池，和有一幽雅環境可以散步，也因此讓我認識許多愛犬知己，還有他們之主人，我說特別喜歡愛犬早起，可以顯示我內心之喜悅，如果無水管破裂，水管堵塞等俗事纏身，我真似居人間樂園。

Suddenly Chance and Daschle are moving out of their house at the corner of Olympia and Stoneford because the owner wants to put the house on the market for sale. They have to follow the owner’s son to move away to an apartment. They are my favorite dog friends in the neighborhood. They are the Border Collie or the Australian Shepherd. Chance used to be belonged to Jim, the owner, while Daschle is his son’s. They are brothers in the same litter. When I walk by the house, Chance would come to the side gate to bark at me and latter Daschle joins in as a pack. I asks the owner formally introducing me to Chance and he becomes my friend and allow me to pet him and so is Daschle when he latter moves in with the owner’s son.

I used to provide old tennis balls for the dogs to play until the room mate of the son stops me due to the concern of the dogs’ gum, yet I am still allowed to greet them. At the old time, both dogs remember that I am the tennis ball man and carry the bit up ball toward me for playing. When I pass the house in day dreaming, they would bark at me in loud voices to get my attention. After February this year, I extend my morning walk and passing by their house before the sun rises, they still bark at me far away on the Olympia.

I feel that they are very lonely. The owners don’t have time to take them to walk and can only play at the back yard around a swimming pool. During the winter time, they can get in to the garage for a shelter. Diana tells me a story about the lonely Chance. She once felt bad for Chance and texted a phone message to Jim’s daughter for help. She was her daughter’s classmate. The situation was improved temporarily yet returned to the same soon after. She blames that Jim’s date of a girlfriend not far away. It is not my business really that I only care about our friendship. When I pass by the house, I always come closed to chat with them even with another dog’s company. They would patiently wait for my attention.

This is why I don’t like to have a dog that I don’t like the moment of the departure. It is a kind of suffering, a suffering of the mankind as the Buddha’s description like the birth, the aging, the sickness, and the death. Jim comforts me that his son’s new apartment in downtown is closed to a dog park and dogs will be alright after all. I am thinking of the other way. I must write it down for my memory.

強斯和戴秀是兩兄弟愛犬，屬邊境牧羊犬，或是澳洲牧羊犬，黑色兼些斑白俊犬，都是雄性，最近始閹割，吠聲如雷，我先認識強斯，經其主人紹介後，對我友善，戴秀偶爾來強斯家作客，主人曰彼等乃同胞兄弟也，與其子照顧，當年，我剛從老茶花女街住屋搬來西村，強斯應是早期愛犬知己。吉姆退修後，搬離住屋他去，其屋由其子居住，於是戴秀搬來，每日清晨，雙犬均在側門等候，我偶贈舊網球，供彼等玩耍，強斯聰穎，遇我經過則衘球相見，我不斷稱贊。

因彼吠聲如雷，許多小愛犬和主人，不敢靠近，其實此類牧羊犬，非常溫柔，愛美過去經常站在遠處等待，就是現在陪伴兩愛犬散步路過，女主人也要求其犬坐立，保持距離。我和強斯感情較好，平常他站右邊，等待我之摸頭，甜言蜜語，若是我作白日夢路過不察，他們也會提醒我注意，今年初因武漢肺炎肆虐，我天未亮即出門，過奧林匹亞路，雙犬就大聲吠叫，提醒我他們之早起。

吉姆將收回住屋，整理後出售，其子與雙犬已搬離，我甚悵然若失，他說其子搬進城中公寓，附近有愛犬公園，應該環境不錯，我黯然無語，此為愛親別離之苦，許多人不能體會，我之喜愛犬，而又不願蓄犬，乃不願歷此苦也。

東鄰愛犬愛瑪亦是邊境牧羊犬，巧克力色䧳犬，甚是可愛，亦是我知己，鄰居有兩幼齡嬰孩，主人經常攜愛瑪與小孩散步，有時他們走近奧林匹亞路附近，鄰居也注意到吉姆家之兩愛犬，我要找時間與其談到這段別離。

There is always an issue of our up stair bath room water disposal problem and we don’t know what to do with it. Amy has closed three faucets under two counters and only let Arthur to use one faucet and keep the wash water in a pan dump to the working toilet or the bath top. He has been very patient for the last five years. Every two days, both sinks are full of clean water and we don’t know what it is and where it is coming from. During the recent broken pipe in the front yard, we are very impressed with the skill of that plumbing company and invite the sales plumber to come up to take a look. He suggests having a snake job for $450.00 and we agree.

He uses a small size of round cable to get into the disposal pipe and attempts to break up the clog. After several try and exhausted two batteries, he offers a second option of power wash with an additional cost. We agree and he schedules to come back on Monday with the machine and a plumbing camera. Both of Amy and I have two sleepless nights to think about this problem. At least we learn that the overflow clean water is the drainage of the air condition unit coil on the attic. Since the snake work has made the clog more compacted, we must dump the water on the pan every two hours period.

The plumber comes back on Monday morning with all the equipment needed. I tell him my thinking of my cutting losses if he fails again on the power wash. I don’t want to go to the third option to break up the wall to replace the pipe. I tell him my theory that his options are all the physical process and I want to try my chemical process to use the caustic soda, NaOH, to break up the calcium precipitate. He offers me a bet and I am not in such mood. He changes the shower head into a connection for a hose to be used. Then, the electricity is applied to pump the pressure to a hose lead tube with a metal head into the trouble pipe. He wants me to take a look at the camera screen. Actually I don’t see very much that I can understand yet I can see the wash. Soon he finishes both pipes and asks me to check all sinks and tops down stair. Our cost is $820 to cover the previous procedure.

I believe that if we don’t listen to some other plumbers’ opinions from the beginning, we find a proper plumber to do the snaking one step at a time. We don’t have to wait for five years of our time to enjoy this beautiful two story house.

住家二樓浴室，排水管有痼疾，積水不通，自遷居於此近八年，後五年開始有問題，停止使用洗臉水槽後，每兩日必有滿槽清水，必需清除，旁邊之抽水馬桶和浴池則無恙，平時委曲元兒，使用水盆積水，積滿倒入馬桶或浴池，非常不便，這次前院水管破裂，找到一家修理水管公司，非常有效率，當然很貴，於是我邀請其業務師傅估價，這樓上問題，他爬上小頂樓，於是開始使用蛇形長鋼索，入管清除障礙，我一生觀看過幾次，通試幾次，兩具電池，然然不能過關，於是他建議我第二選擇，使用動力噴水龍頭清洗，這手續報價八百二十，免去前手續之四百五十，我說的都是美金。他將帶水管照相機，和噴水龍頭來，那積滿清水，乃冷氣機冷卻排水也。

這週末，我一直無法入寐，滿腦都是這水管堵塞問題，問題還是要解決，過去道聽途說多年，均是危言聳聽，甚麼二樓住屋排水設計問題，需要拆開牆壁更換水管等等大工程大預算，我聽得心寒不已。於是我向鄰居愛犬主人訴苦，均曰難題也。師傅曰因久未使用，故堵塞像是頑石，於是我開始回想到我的化學，這頑石來自於何？自來水中有許多鈣離子，因為水廠化學單元操作，加氫氧化鈣，逼使重金屬沉澱，自來水帶來鈣離子到家中，就是與空氣中之二氧化碳，也可以產生石灰石，所以我相信水管堵塞之原因，太多鈣離子，太多陰離子，還有二樓設計問題，於是我和師傅講，若其第二步驟失敗，就是動力清洗無效，我不願採取拆牆第三步，我願放棄所有物理治療法，採取我的化學分解法，就是買苛性鹼，氫氧化钠溶解於冷氣機排水中，慢慢腐蝕頑石中之鈣，我們要開始談論我的停損點，就是我要付多少他的辛勞。

青年師傅要跟我打賭，我毫無興趣，他要我看相機，於是那噴水機，開始發揮作用，不些時兩管具通暢無阻，我的積年厄夢，突然夢醒。

There is a broken water pipe underground on our side of the front yard border line with our neighbor to the east. We both make sure that the water leak is my responsibility. I have had a plumbing company to come to put a new pipe by the side of the old. First, we have to wait for the city’s contractor to shut off the water valve in front of the water meter. Only the city has such big turn key to move the knot and we must wait. Once the water is turned off, a team of three young Mexican workers come to dig a ditch along a white line marked by the first plumber of the plumbing company. Another plumber comes and begins to take a look of the job. I have some interest of the pipe arrangement of the water filter; therefore, I watch his work and chat with him to learn some knowledge of the current day plumbing.

The plumber who makes the contract indicates that there will be a homeowner valve installed on the new pipe behind the city water mater; however, he doesn’t list on the contract. Both Amy and I are worried overnight. We text the company to inform our concern and finally we see the second plumber who makes the confirmation to install that one and also replace an old one before the pipe enter the house. Now I have a better understanding how to turn on and off the tap water. If I want to change a faucet, I can turn the valve by the wall of the house and if I must shut the whole entrance of water to my house, I can easily turn off the homeowner valve by the water meter just added.

He, the installing plumber, cuts and connects the PVC pipes, polyvinylchrolide tubes easily. He answers my questions of why replacing the old metal pipes. It is cleaner and makes more economic sense. We can save some cost of the replacement even though the plastic material lasts shorter than the metal; however, we don’t need to worry about the heavy metal ions in our drinking system and also it is easier to cut the plastic than the welding of the metal pipes in order to make the connection, etc.

I finally make sure how to apply a Teflon tape on a connection pipe, it should be on the clockwise direction to follow the screw direction to make the closest contact of both tubes. I often makes mistake when I make a change of tube on my drinking water filter and in a result of such mistake, there is always a leak afterward. They don’t wait until the city worker to come back to turn on the valve because we don’t know when the city worker will return.

今晨，網球剛結束，愛美有話來，市府契約公司，已經派人關閉自來水活門，水管工人，已經開始挖地，取出破裂水管，他們有三人，都是年輕之墨西哥青年，我因為昨夜擔心一項活門，未列入契約選項，幾乎未能入寐，一位師傅曰，是準備在水錶前方，安置一小活門，這水管本身不大，我猜想就是一吋半徑，挖土工人約挖兩呎深，然後插入一隻約四呎長水管，在人行道地下通過，然後將新水管，從水錶處，穿過人行道地下水管，兩呎深地溝，抵達屋簷牆腳下，這時候師傅開始衘接水管和水龍頭，我掛口罩和他聊天，我對衘接水管有興趣，我曾經販賣服務逆滲透濾水器，許多小水管連接經驗。

為甚麼房屋水管材料，不再使用金屬水管，而採用聚氯乙烯塑膠管，因為成本低，接切管容易，無需金屬焊接之麻煩，於是我了解，我的水管破裂是應該的，不是我倒霉，而且全線更新更是保險，美國工資昂貴。我看師傅一一裁剪水管，塗上黏膠，鋼管部份衘接鐵佛龍白帶是順時鐘方向，我終於肯定。

三位墨籍工人，耐心等候，幫忙師傅開活門，因為缺乏大起開栓器，只好等我呼叫市政府，他們不知需等待到何時，遂先行散去，明日再來，市府人隨後趕到，打開活門，重新供水，缺水一日不到，有錢能使鬼推磨。

The old front yard water pipe is broken and tons of water leak. Our house was built in 1982 with a polyvinylchloride, PVC, type of pipe which can be last for about 30 years. I am in panic when I see such outburst of tap water and worry about the monthly water bill. I call a plumber and also inform the city 311. The plumber came and couldn’t turn off the water valve and the city contractor took their time to come. My daughter Michelle who has more experience in this matter finds another plumber to give me a quote. He did give me a quote and I paid half of the fee in the front. I believe that he informed the city to close my case. At least I shall pay $3,200 in total for the replacement of the old broken pipe and I’ll have a side valve installed by the side of the main valve for my future use to control the water.

I walk on the streets in the subdivision almost every day and see the broken pipe. Usually it will take a long time for the city to fix it. Because this is inside of my front yard; therefore, it is my responsibility to fix it. The second plumber tells me that I can present my invoice to the city to waive the extra charge of water due to the breakage which is a release of my concern. Otherwise, I must appeal to the city for the forgiveness.

I thought that it would be easy for me to manage my expanse to live in this house. It is an extra and unscheduled cost, no, I take it back. I should anticipate the collapse of the pipe like some of the regular maintenance such as painting and replacing the corroded wood on the siding. I am such a stingy person and always wait until the fire to reach my rear.

今晨散步返家，愛美驅車前來接駕，原來庭院水管破裂，流水甚多，我們連忙電話市政府，和修理水管公司，修理工前來，但無工具，無法關閉活門，但給給兩報價，我覺得水活門未能關閉，如何能動工修理？所以交上五十美金出差費，在奧斯汀之琳兒聞訊，連忙幫我們找一家公司來估價，她專門購買古屋，有三家換新水管經驗，現今水管都是多氯聚乙稀塑膠管，四十年就粉碎，所以破裂正常。技師設法關閉活門不果，我觀看其動作，甚為熟練，他說將另設一活門，給我三個報價，於是我選全段換新，一共四十五呎，要價三千兩百元美金，就是九萬六千新台幣，在美國生活，就是如此之貴，先付一千六，完工後全數付清。

我不能拖，打亂我寧靜之生活，漏水費甚貴，但市政府可以赦免増加水費，只要我提出有執照行號收據，此甚有趣，我原想動用轄區市議員，甚至上訴市長，請求減免水費，原來政府都已考慮到市民不便，我的問題是老舊水錶活門，電話申請市府幫忙，市府將工作包給外州大公司契約包工，有效管理服務，浪費之自來水，很快就補足，非常有趣，市政管理，全市只需一電話號碼，三一一，其餘則需了解手續，市民不會吃虧，若是公安問題，則反應速度甚快。

還好我今年二月起，都關在家隔離，省下出外旅行之錢，正好用上修理水管。

We were called to babysit three dogs during the labor’s day weekend. We have met these three lovely rescued dogs before and I have a full confidence to manage these four nights and five days. I consider myself as a dog whisperer because that I have had more than fifty dog friends in the neighborhood. They are Brinkley, Griffin, and Honey all eleven years old. First two are male and the third is a female, white spot, black, and chocolate colors of their hair individually. Their weight is 50 lbs. 20 lbs. and 20 labs.

There are two meals required in a day, early morning and evening before a walk, and also there is a third or fourth walk in between. These three are formed to be a pack; therefore, I have to change the arrangement, for instance, I would walk the big one away from Amy’s walk with two small one on the other direction. The big one is very powerful to pull like a slag dog and once he can’t see the other two I am alright. Honey can pull also yet she is less powerful and Amy can handle her with Griffin is very smooth together. After the walk, they are all exhausted lying down on the floor.

The owner makes a box of fried rice with bean and ground beef in order to mix with the dog food. Usually, they eat before me. I eat two meals a day also. They are playing sex intercourse action even though they are castrated. It does bother me and I have to point my finger at them and say no firmly.

At night, they must sleep with a human being to avoid scare of anything. I sleep on a sofa set; therefore, we bring their bed, a mattress, by my side. Amy will let them out during the night when she is awake. I also wake them up when I have my toilet visit during the night. There are also two cats in the household yet they are no trouble at all.

I ask the owner to find time to walk them every day. It is very important that dogs have exercises.

勞工節週末長假，我們到奧斯汀幫忙照顧三愛犬，他們都是十一歲年紀，十分活潑可愛，兩男一女，名曰布林克利，稍大雄犬，單眼皮，約五十磅體重，花白短毛，格利分是長毛黑犬，約二十磅不到，蜂蜜是長毛淡巧克力色，十分美麗䧳犬，三犬中最為甜蜜者，我們曾帶此犬散步過一次，因為主人住屋正在翻修，請人看守不易，於是想倒我們。

愛美聆聽女主人交代，如何餵食貓犬，如何放出後院，如何安置入睡等等，然後就是遛犬，這是我的部門，首日黃昏，兩男孩分別騎鐵馬陪我們遛犬，我帶兩雄犬，走一方向，一男孩陪著，愛美牽著蜂蜜，走另一方向，這是我之設計，分開這一伍，大犬十分掙扎，我也非常篤定，非常堅持，第二日，蜂蜜掙扎脫出，嚇壞愛美，於是我們設法追趕街頭，幸好一位善心男士幫忙，他下車幫忙追趕無效後，仍不放棄幫忙，開車追趕，差入路旁，阻擋這逃出小犬，蜂蜜不知如何應對，連忙退後，乖乖回到愛美身旁。翌日，我再改組隊伍，大犬單隻與我，兩小犬體力尚可控制，交給愛美，於是我們相安無事，遛犬主要目的是讓愛犬有機會上廁所，我們口袋都準備糞袋。

晚上，三犬需要與人同室睡覺，於是跟我同睡客廳，在我沙發旁，否則真是風吹草動，整夜不得安寧。主人準備一大盒炒飯，與飼料混食，早晚兩餐。我們一日遛犬至少三次，也認識不少鄰居，很快五日四夜過去，我忘記帶回皮拖鞋，只待下次再帶回。

One of the ways to describe President of Trump is that he is a shameless person. He reminds me two famous quotes in the old Chinese literature which I have learned since my childhood. The first one is by Mencius who defined the shameless: the man can’t be shameless, to know what is the shameless ness; therefore, you can avoid the shameless. It is very dirty when people call you shameless ness. The other quote is from a famous prince Tsao Tsi(192-232), he once wrote to his friend Yang Der-tsu to clarify the human preference. He says that the human has a difference of favorite, the fragrant of the orchid and the vanilla are preferable to most of people while one the seaside, there are people chasing the smelly, foul and stinking, etc.

I went to Austin during the weekend for a short visit to my daughter. I pick up a yard sign of Biden’s campaign and proudly erect it on my front yard for everybody to see that I prefer the orchid and the vanilla. I hope this media madness about Trump will end on November the third. We are going to vote Trump out of the White House.

世界上最為無恥者，川普也，中國先哲孟子曰，人不可以無恥，無恥之恥，無恥也，就是說，每人都需要有羞恥心，不能沒有羞恥心，知道甚麼是為無恥，就可以避免無恥之行為，就與無恥有涉，川普天天說謊，天天造謠，天天無惡不作，曹植曰，人各有所好尚，蘭茞蓀蕙之芳，而海畔有逐臭之夫。

川普好色，而且不擇手段，克林頓也好色，但憑口才說服力，而不是全憑金錢銅臭，川普有許多女色案件在等他，有非法報銷女色支出，目前躲在白宮內。

川普之種族岐視，也是無恥之一也，他看不起窮人，黑人，墨西哥人，亞洲人等，和那些白人優越感人一伍，這些人心理不正常，美國尚有許多人，動不動就開槍打死無辜者。

川普不守法，鑽法律漏洞，威赫那些告密醜聞者，打法律官司，所有參選或當選總統者，都公佈私人稅報，惟他拒絕，而且再三申訴到最高法院，此無恥也，大家想知道如何幾十億萬富翁，可以不交稅？而且又可倒閉六次以上，到六百次？而又維持幾十億資產？各州檢察長，都查何以美國銀行都拒絕貸款給他，他又可以跟德國銀行，貸到巨款？檢察長想知道其企業，是否向中國和俄羅斯銀行借錢？當美國總統，私人企業，仍然掛自己姓名，又交給兒子管，是清楚嗎？兒子均是成年人，若屬他人，已非自營，那麼是不是要交贈與稅？全國都應該討論，在華盛頓租聯邦郵局舊址，開辦大飯店，營業聯邦業務，例如沙烏地官員，此有與民奪利乎？

台灣政府輿論一片叫好川普，包括一般台灣人，川普是為自己私利，並非真正替台灣出氣，他想發動戰爭，取得連任，美國軍隊是募兵制，兵源窘困，台灣為獨立生存，需要靠自己，美國幫忙是其次，還剩下兩個月，中國不會攻打台灣，美國也不會攻打中國，讓拜登當選總統，美國，台灣，和全球都不會如此緊張，川普無恥，又沐猴而冠，連美國都快宣佈破產。AC
