Pardon Chen Shui-bian in Taiwan/Carlos Pueblo

Pardon Chen Shui-bian in Taiwan/Carlos Pueblo

Formal Taiwan President, Chen Shui-bian 2000-2008, has been arrested immediately
after his term ended without any trail of any kinds, no innocent till proven guilty. It
is the latest few known political prisoners in Taiwan. We urge the current Taiwanese
President, Tsai In-wen, to pardon him for the crime without any law definition at
that time under the ruling Chinese Nationalists own law. I firmly believe that his jail
term has been sufficient enough and is the time for all of us to move on.

Chen argues that the excess fund which he and his family gathered was from the
political campaigns donation. There was none of such law to regulate such financial
transection; therefore, it had been all tax free and similar to a kind of corruption. I
understand that there is no such thing of the law and order in Chinese history. I
read the personal assets of retiring Presidents, Lee Teng-huei and Ma Ying-jeou, are
all over their life time stipends as a government employee. It is very unfortunate that
a young democracy with such tragedy; however, we must learn the lesson, rebuild
the legal system, and move on.

As an admirer of Chen most of my adult life and a supporter of such pardon, I encourage
my fellow supporter to do worldwide efforts to rescue him. First, never let the Chinese
Nationalists KMT to regain any political power in Taiwan; Second, force every political
Candidate to make such pledge to support the pardon; third, make the Presidential
Campaign issue in 2020; fourth, urge the local magistrate councils to file resolution of
his pardon like his release of jail time previously.

I believe that terminate the Chinese Nationalist Chinese role in Taiwanese politic will
generate a better opportunity for Taiwan’s move to modern democracy.
