Farewell to Harry Chang/ Carlos Pueblo
Harry Chang
passed away on November 6, 2015. As an alumnus
and a friend
of the old Taiwan Normal University, I mourn for the
loss of his
family and with tremendous admiration of
his career,
and dedication
to serve to our alumni association.
I have known
Harry since January, 2004 when we worked together
to re-build
the alumni association. We nominated him for the honor
of a
distinguished alumnus for the university in 2007; thereafter, he
served as
our president of the alumni association in 2010 and before
that he
established a small scholarship for the current students in
Taipei,
Taiwan, as a matter of fact, his last trip back to Taiwan was to
Deliver the
check personally to the university.
Because of
the association’s affair, we have started a good friendship.
I always
admire smart students at schools especially for those good at
mathematics,
and he is in that category, a B.S. in Physics and a Ph.D
in
Electrical Engineering. In his career, he had been in charge of the
thermodynamic portion of the famous space shuttle. I always
desire to
read his
story in Chinese language about how do you maneuver such
shuttle in
space for such a long period of time. I believed that he had
that plan.
Every year,
he would take a visit to his beloved university, stayed at the
university inn
or a teachers inn nearby his old middle school, Chien Kuo
Senior High,
another famous school. I appreciate his love for Taiwan and
the university;
therefore, we have had so much to discuss about. The
university
took advantage of his experience and arranged some students
of interests
to meet him at a seminar.
I always
think of Buddhism at the moment of departure. I believe that Harry
has lived a
very meaningful life, in Buddhism, we call it Nirvana, and he has
been on his
way to the western extreme happiest paradise.
