Weekend activities at River Main/Carlos Pueblo

Lots of activities in the weekend at River Main in Frankfurt, River Queen embarked

on the north bank pier, and many boat rowers gathered on the south bank for a

nationwide contest. All matches from the preliminary to the final concluded in a day.

There are 8 rowers on each boat with a coxswain to direct the entire boat from the

direction to the speed and amazingly all coxswains are female with loud voices which

no one can ignore.

The city blocked three sections of a street for a huge flea market to sell used and new

Goods, most of them were sole proprietors for used items while some booths with

new inventory might be from local stores nearby for the weekend exposure. The items

included almost everything which we could think of, clothes, books, jewelry, bicycles,

furniture, hardware etc. I found a pair of used leather gloves for my winter trip to freezing

parts of the world.

I overheard the voice of the boat coxes and rushed back to the stand to watch the contest.

Two boats went off like speedy arrows from one bridge front to race till the rear of 2^nd

bridge. Audients were all over on the south bank and both bridges. The traffic was in good

control for instance, I saw river vessels were still passing through and even pilot boats

guiding the contest row boats to their position. On the south bank, it was like a spring day

carnival of live music, open air restaurants, and families came out to the riverside grass for

sun tanning. I walked toward the south side of the river to see the weekend looked like. It

was also a very busy section of the city. River Queen of the sister ship of Marie Theresa

embarked toward the east direction for another destination to visit, the flea market was

closing and the row boat contest almost finishing.

Sunday morning, there was a marathon in the old town area. I stood at a corner of Willy

Brandt Plaza to witness the runners passing by. There was a little blonde girl across the

street from me with her older sister and a lady. She kept on yelling to the runners, SEIBOU

,SEIBOU, and I asked a young man next to me what did it mean in English. He said that he

was not that good in Berman yet might be faster, faster, then it was encouraging the

runners. German kids are so lovely full of parents love and care and free express to the

ultimate. Later, a young runner dropped by and I thought that was their mother and they

joined their mother on the next block and I guessed the older lady was their grandmother.

I ran into a Taiwanese girl who came here to work for a Chinese Tourist agency for three

months. I brought her to visit the 32 garden houses with peonies in full blooming.

麥因河週末熱鬧，河川皇后號，停泊在北岸，也是單一世界之豪華遊輪，

南岸有許多划船選手雲集，此為全國級競賽，男女兩組，從初賽，複賽，

到決賽，一日喝成。每船有8位選手，左右各半，船尾有一舵手，很有趣

者為兩性賽程，均由女性掌舵，聲音尖銳宏亮，甚難不引起注意。

南岸東向街道，有三段攔截成，週六跳蚤市場，物品有新舊，包羅萬象，

這是露天市場，引來許多顧客，多半是個體戶，規模大者，均是店面，也

有食物攤位，德國快餐簡單，烤香腸夾漢堡麵包，飲料多種，主要是冰啤

酒。我在市場來回逛了三圈，終於買下一雙舊皮手套，我相信是真皮，剛

好在回美國後之，阿拉斯加郵輪旅行用上，我經常旅行掉一手套，到處掉

，倫敦掉，東京掉，真是不勝其煩，奇怪者才市場，僅此一雙而已。

聞女舵手吆喝聲，我連忙趕到岸邊，此時岸邊開始擠滿觀眾，多半是年輕

人，兩船如快箭般射出，每船有位選手划船，左右各四，距離是兩橋之間，

大會將河上交通秩序，控制很好，甚至有小引擎導航諸賽船就位。河岸附

近，像是嘉年華會，德國人家庭出動，到河邊草地曬太陽，有舞台樂團演

唱，許多贊助商號。也有觀眾站在兩座大橋上觀看。南岸也是鬧區，我走

了一兩條街，買一只冰淇淋，走路吃回河岸，跳蚤市場已近尾聲，河川遊

輪，已經起錨，航向麥因河東方。

翌晨週日，我又回威利布蘭德站，剛好有馬拉松活動，警察將南北向電車

擋住，許多多乘客，都自動下車他去，有一金髮小女孩，在對街口大喊，

大喊德語歇布喔，歇布喔，我問旁邊一位路過青年，他說德語不熟，大概

是快跑之意，這小女孩很可愛，我看德國小孩，從小父母愛，活潑舞慮，

她有一姊姊在旁，有一中年婦人，在旁照顧，後來有位年輕跑手停下招呼

，我猜是小女孩們之母，不久三位離去，與其母會合。

我在河岸遇見一位東方小姐，十分面熟，原來是在馬拉松車站前看到，林

小姐，是位專業導遊，準備在法蘭克福工作三個月，是中國旅行社顧主，

客戶是中國遊客。小姐旅行知識豐富，全球都服務過，加拿大，西班牙，

德國，法國等，她說台灣團少，所以找到中國，機會較多。我帶她到奧芬

巴克路上看花，牡丹開得更美，她推薦我到省會維斯巴登市泡溫泉，於是

翌日專程拜訪。

I have not finished my traveling journal, yet I have another trip coming up

next month for another 61 days. I need to inform my friends in both Germany

and France of my arriving schedule. I’ll arrive in Frankfurt on 09/17/2016 and

stay in Germany and around countries for a month, then go to Istanbul, Turkey

for a week, return to Lyon, France for 4 days, then to Barcelona to catch up

a cruise ship, Norwegian Jade, to Tampa, Florida, then Miami for 2 days and

after that return to Houston.

Specifically, from Frankfurt, I’ll visit Heidelberg and then directly to Brussels for

3 days; back to Berlin for 3 days; to Copenhagen, Denmark for 3 days; then very

Interestingly to Krakow, Poland for 3 days; Prague, Czech Republic for 3 days; then

down to Zagreb, Croatia for 3 days; then Venice, Italy for another 3 days. I’ll return

to Frankfurt for another 5 days to visit Stuttgart, Freiburg, Bonn, and Cologne before

I go to Istanbul, Turkey for a week visit.

I’ll have another opportunity to visit Malaga in order to make up my regret of not

visiting Granada Moore Castle on my last visit of Spain. I’ll do the Gibraltar on my

future Transatlantic journey with Jade.

下月中旬，我就需要出門旅行，再遊歐洲，先在德國附近，停留一個月

，再訪土耳其伊斯坦堡市一週，回法國里昂市四日，再經倫敦趕到西班

牙，巴塞隆納港，搭郵輪返美，在南佛州停留四日，再回休士頓，我因

想通知德法友人，提早作文報告。

先飛抵法蘭克福市，搭火車參觀墨尼黑啤酒節，一日到海德堡，然後搭

火車到比利時布魯塞爾市，三日後回柏林，再搭火車巴士到丹麥哥本哈

根市三日，然後搭火車巴士到波蘭克拉口市三日，再搭火車巴士到捷克

布拉格市三日，然後是克洛西維亞之莎格烈市三日，最後到義大利威尼

斯港三日。回德國後，有五日住法蘭克福市，到科隆市，波昂，佛萊堡

附近黑森林坐火車觀光。經倫敦到法國中部里昂市三日，參觀里昂大學，

看不到里昂春天，秋天也可交差。

再經倫敦轉機到巴塞隆納港，搭珠寶號回美國，其中經過馬拉卡市，希

望有機會，補遊格林那達，摩爾宮殿，在佛州下船，潭頗和麥阿密各兩日

。

我之旅行，像是行腳和尚，到處掛單，見識民間疾苦和，都市之榮華富貴

。

I had had five times walking along the river banks of River Main at Frankfurt

and each time, I thought that I could reach the entrance of the Rhine. First,

I got the direction wrong, I thought that I was on the southern part of the city

; therefore, I messed up all the direction; secondly the pedestrian limit prohibit

my march anyway. No wonder every local told me that was impossible. I walked

right from the old town, I thought that was westward in fact was eastward and I

was stop at a bridge after the old Hoechst factory and an abandon office building.

The next morning, I walked on the opposite direction on the left toward a more

populated city blocks eventually toward a small canal of the industrial pier. I did

it again on the third morning across to the southern bank of the river and turned

left, eastward, toward Offenbach Am Main.

There are at least two beautiful buildings on this southeast side of the river, one

is a huge church and another one is a huge red brick building which no one can

ignore their existence. The south bank is basically a larger river park with flood

control purposes. I carefully viewed 32 residential front yard garden along the

way. There are frame houses which are for the premises owners to store their

garden tools and as temporary shelter of some sort. Finally, I found vivid plants

of peony not yet fully blooming yet just about. I saw variety colors of roses and the

garden lots were gorgeous. I liked it so much and later I found another opportunity

to go back again to show a newly met Taiwanese acquaintance. I have had some

experience with the flood control plan converted to a huge park in Houston; therefore,

I can understand this beautification of utilization of flood land for gardens.

After this set up immediately coming is a river lock with two narrow passes big enough

to pass two vessels. The lock is some kinds of tube shape, not a dam shape permanent

installation to control water level. I saw a bear appearing in the grass yard in the back

of a single dwelling. It is Offenbach now as I check my photos gallery. There are shops

and playground for some church activities. A small inn located on the back with very

charming roses which I took several pictures. I sneaked into an international school for

toilet use and on the backyard there were some sheep and chicken roaming around.

Many while geese were close to the pond like river. I was on the back door of Offenbach.

It is a lovely city. I visited the city enter with at least two adorable flowers shops. Peonies

,roses and the others. I think that the European are generally love flowers. After my lunch,

I took a nap until a group of three youngsters woke me up. They are German Turks spoken

English without any reservation. One leader wanted to discuss sex like some youth in the

States. I said that I was too old and could not erect. They laughed and flirting with young

girls passing by and received scolding.

我沿麥因河畔，散步五次，每次都希望走到萊茵河入口，德國人聽畢，均曰

不能，需要搭火車，我先在北岸西向，走到無路可走，翌晨東向，走到河港

碼頭區，然後搭電車回老街，第三次過南岸東向，走到奧芬巴克市，然後再

搭火車回法蘭克福火車站，此奧芬巴克行，非常有趣，隨後一日，我又帶一

位台灣小姐，走到將近奧芬巴克市，再走回老街，因為陪小姐散步，一點都

不疲倦，這位美麗小姐，專程來法蘭克福，擔任中國旅行團導遊三個月。

南岸東向走，有一漂亮之教堂，我特別走出參觀。沿岸是步行道，和漂亮草

坪，江輪來來去去，到麥因河小水壩處，有小河島樹林住宅，我確實看到一

隻熊進入樹林，小水壩像是橡皮圈，不是鋼筋水泥，擋住河水，使吃水位增

高，然後在北邊，有兩船行道，像巴拿馬運河一般，江輪可依聲納控制進出，

過水壩就是市立公園，河畔較為寬闊，北界有32棟小屋，每小屋均是家庭花

園，有很特殊之家庭園藝，第一次在週日，未見花園主人，第二次在週末，遇

到一對年輕夫婦，開門讓我們參觀。

我知道此為麥因河洩洪區，工程師可以估計雨水量，麥因河水位，規劃河岸兩側

洩洪區，這些房舍都是禁建區，所以屋舍都是木造屋。花園之花卉，主要是玫瑰

花和牡丹花，當然還有許多我唸不出名號者，我特別興趣之牡丹，終於看到其全

株之真面目，牡丹花似玫瑰花，菊花，和大理花，我可以輕易識別出來，牡丹花

在中國東北和日本盛產，而且許多畫家，取材於此，電影上也很多，像是我喜歡

之宮本武藏電影。我在法蘭克福看到許多，漂亮之玫瑰花，小時候音樂課，規定

考試歌曲，夏日最後玫瑰，野玫瑰等，泰半來自德國。

有人利用河畔，種植有機蔬菜，就是利用廢棄木架等，加工置耕種沃土，灌溉河

水，有些規模。越接近城市，越見工業區，我在附近，見到一中東人經營之，慈

善學校，我溜進去上廁所，後院蓄養幾隻綿羊，與孩童為伴。我到市中心，中午

不到。奧芬巴克市，人口十二萬六，是法蘭克福在麥因河區內，非常美麗之德國

城市，鬧街上有幾家花店，是我攝影留念處。

回來查字典，日本之本田汽車，在奧芬巴克市，生產油電混合動力汽車，我在奧市

停留短暫，其中有一段，就是午餐後，在板凳上小寐，三位土耳其裔德國青年，一

陣吵醒，其中一位健談，跟我談到性交，和一般美國青少年無異，當場調戲路過少

女，引來少女嬌愼。

I was invited to see briefly of the docking ship Maria Theresa on the north

bank side walk of River Main , after my early morning walk to the eastern

end of the pedestrian and back. It is a very gorgeous ship indeed. The ship

engine was still running and the passengers were coming down from the ship

and forming three groups for land excursions, one for Heidelberg, one for

Mainz, and one for the old town Frankfurt by foot. I was chatting with a

Japanese lady reporter for her documentary project and the tall handsome

Captain walking down for some reasons overheard my admiration and invited

me to come aboard.

I begged her highness pardon for my poor European history background and

could not recognize her portrait on the entrance wall facing a luxury restaurant.

Now, after several researches that I knew she was a genuine Empress of her time

In the Roman Empire and her daughter was the famous Queen of France, Marie

Antoinette of the Petit Trianon of the Chateau Versailles. The interior structures,

furniture, and decoration are luxury and elegant for any comparison with the

ocean liners which I have been with, of course, the cost is almost ten time higher.

The owner of the ship, Uniworld, is an American company doing business on

European rivers.

I made my exit and attempted to catch up with the Old Town group passing by

the street with plenty of blooming roses on the patios and small flower beds on

the first floor. The guide is a Portugal lady with head carve with no veil and a long

piece of cloth which I cannot find the proper name to it. She is very well learned

person of her job. She took the group touring the old city hall, old churches especially

the one 1848 unification conference held, the square of all significant architecture

of the ancient time. There were tourists all over the old town by that time that she

needed to compete with the noisy environment. We went to a market and tasted

some sweets and used the toilet. Eventually, I got lost with the group and went on

to have my own wondering of the old town.

I admire this lady guide for her knowledge and her kindness toward the weaker group

of the society. She took us to witness a soup kitchen in function at a church, one of

a couple from southern California immediately recognizing the church because her

routine donation for their good deed. The church provides breakfast for the needy in

the morning. She also mentioned that the city open the station for the homeless during

the severe cold weather and she also said that was not right for any person working all

their life and end up without a shelter at old age.
