Visiting Montmatre, Paris/Carlos Pueblo

Visiting Montmatre, Paris/Carlos Pueblo

A young visitor in the hostel recommended me visit Pigalle where I could
go up to a big church to have a good view of the city. My fellow Taiwanese
lady visitor indicated the concern of public safety and I did not know the
reason. I did go up to the small hill, Montmatre 130 meters high and the
white-domed church called Basilica of the Sacred-Coeur. Later an e-mail
from home indicated Pigalle is a night club district and a mixed race area.
Actually it didn’t bother me at all because I was very early in the morning
to reach to the domed building while most of the people were still at sleep.

It was easier to go up from the front side of the church because the sign
direction almost on each street corner. There are several platform on the
steps up with many ladder garden lots full of different kinds of flowers. When
I reach up to the top level, busload of Chinese tourists were released and I
could identify who they were from by overhearing their spoken language.
A lady guide was very surprised that I was so early in contrast of her group.
The church was not ready to open for that day’s visitor. I descended from the
Backside of the church where I could see the Eiffel Tower far away and still
vividly. Some early birds were taking exercises like yoga and Tai-chi shadow
boxing etc. It is surrounded by the residential area of Montmare.

I didn’t read the map, as a matter of a fact, the map was not as important as
a toilet location in Europe, without it I could not go further. I found a grocery
store of frozen desserts and use its toilet with a purchase of an ice cream cup
and I didn’t believe that a purchase was required because the clerk seemed
very understanding. I continued walking on the streets without any direction.
I believed that I passed by a big cemetery which was for commoners, not the
Famous Cimetiere du Montpanasse.

I decided to take the subway which I had felt more comfortable with to return
to downtown Paris. At Stalingrad Station where I received additional information
about the remain of the Bastille Fortress, I went back to Bastille again. I still could
find neither the remain and Musee Picasso. There are at least two Picasso Museums
as I know of, one in Malaga, Spain his birth place; one in Bastille, France his exile
home. I have been to the one in Malaga.

Visiting Paris Musee de L’Armee/Carlos Pueblo

Visiting Paris Musee de L’Armee/Carlos Pueblo

While I was walking on Avenue Des Champs Elysees, I could not move my eyes
away from a golden dome architecture nearby. When getting closer, it is the
army museum, Musee de L’Armee of Paris, after passing by several famous
buildings such as Grand Palais, Palais Bourbon, Assembly National, etc. Obviously
I must walk across the Concorde Bridge of the Seine built by the stone from
Bastille Fortress. Another famous Ecole Militaire is next to it while Champs de Mars
Tour Eiffel is always on the background. I didn’t have a Chinese map until later day
In Paris and still not read it until yesterday overlooking the significant., yet I had
passed several times after two visits of Versailles and returned to Invalides Station
and a bus tour along the Seine River.

From the varies sizes of old cannons displays on the court yards of the Army Museum,
I can see the warlike spirit of Empire France. The prosper of the Empire depended on
the army, the artillery and cavalier, of course the navy also helped the Empire expanding
to African and Asian colonies. Many prey and booty are inside Paris Museums nowadays.
For example, Napoleon took Saint Mark’s Cathedral horses statue from Venice and put
them on top of The Arc de Triomphe du Carousel. Last year, I was in Valencia, Spain
attending a tip guide tour. The well learned lady guide mentioned Napoleon III asked
Spain allowing his 2,000 troop passing through to Portugal. On his troop back through
Madrid, he refused to leave; therefore, Spain was under French control and that was
why Mexico and Haiti were ruled by French once upon a time and we, Texas, were under
the famous 6 flags and France was one of the 6 ruled Texas. A movie called the Pride and
Passion by Gary Grant, Sophia Loren, and Frank Sinatra, was a story about that time with
big cannon similar to those shown on the court yard of the Museum.

Ecole Militaire is a military academy famous for the produce of Napoleon Bonaparte of
1784 later becoming the emperor of French Empire. Later, the academy has expanded to
French Navy and Air Force. France is still very active with her military forces with the
Activity of North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

I enjoyed very much for a red rose garden near by the Eiffel Tower and a small arc shape
yellow and red roses adjacent to the tower. Tower ground was full of happy visitors going
up and down to the tower. I walked by and toward a subway station. There were some
people gathering for a kind of gamble for Euros, three cups for you to guess which one with
a dice and the dealer switching around three cups with a dice on the ground. Double pay
for the correct bet and forfeit he loser’s Euros. It had attracted a lot of bystanders and some

of them did join in gamble. I doubt that were the dealer’s accomplice.

Looking for Sorbonne Campus/Carlos Pueblo

Looking for Sorbonne Campus/Carlos Pueblo

Sorbonne campus is one of the major reasons why I come to visit Paris.
There were Chinese students coming to Paris for education during the
early 20th century and becoming so distinguished in Chinese literature of
converting classical written language to regular spoken language. These
pioneer scholars’ written work have done so much influence on students
of the later generation including me. Some of them did come to Sorbonne.
Sorbonne was started as a theological seminary as all the famous western
universities. Sorbonne is famous for its liberal arts and sciences colleges.

I checked my photos gallery which shows no pictures of the one shown on
Google’s campus search. I thought that was because Sorbonne was built in
The real estate precious Latin District of Paris, an urban campus, no college
gate, no lake, and no hill, etc. I did see the Pantheon, many churches, Marie
Curie College of Science, and of course the student could walk to the huge and
beautiful of Luxemburg Park for leisure reading and the National Library and
St. Michael Notre-Dame for regular need of college life.

There is a Pantheon Sorbonne University included on the list of Sorbonne campus
that I think is to utilize the huge architecture and its resource. I met a Chinese
girl on Barcelona Art Museum. She went to Paris for undergraduate study and
Sorbonne was her French language school. She then went to finish her degree
In another college and continued her graduate study in London and work in a
bank after graduation.

Visiting Latin District of Paris/Carlos Pueblo

Visiting Latin District of Paris/Carlos Pueblo

One day a Taiwanese lady traveler recommended me St. Michael Notre- Dame
for a visit and I checked my map. Sorbonne University is also inside the district
and not far from the church. Again I got off Chatelet station early on the next
morning to walk toward River Seine. The church is on an island split the river
into two while I walked across the St. Michel Avenue bridge to the east bank.
There is a St. Michel Church between two big streets which I did come back to
take some photos. In Paris there are either palaces or churches which represent
two estates, royalty and churches, which had caused the great 1789 revolution.
The vender opened their box buildings for a business of a new day, souvenirs
and magazines and on the other side of the street, restaurants and more permanent
stores for tourists. I was attracted by an unique street of flowers shops, bird feeds,
and bird shops.

In addition to the fresh cut flowers, the shops also carry the growing plants in a large
pot. I like their roses with all kinds of color and some other charming flowers. I was
not sure if some of them were peony or dahlia and asked my questions. Lady owners
were very patient to me for my broken Spanish. On the other side of the small street,
shoulder to shoulder, were birds stands with all kinds of bird feeds. These are Arabic
birds merchants with very special hobby indeed. I have seen people in Taiwan keep
all kinds of birds as hobby and treated as property. Of course, I also saw people catching
sparrows in the rice field after the harvest for grilled birds for food.

Across another bridge is the world known St. Michel Notre- Dame of Paris. People from
all over the world have gathered in the church square and line up waiting to enter to the
church. The front view of the church is so large which cannot be fit to my regular Canon
lens. I entered to the inside of the church, a red cardinal was performing a mass for the
Catholics. The church keeps several saints around the auditorium. You can purchase
candles to light on the front of the saints of your favorite, of course, you need to pay a
fee usually one Euro for a small candle. We Buddhist did the same thing by burning the
insane to our Buddha and Bodhisattva, saints like of Buddhism.

I went back to the east side of the river entering Luxembourg Park and French Senate.
This was a surprise to me along with the Pantheon due to my afternoon search of
Sorbonne campus of the University of Paris. I have been an admirer of the university
ever since my childhood era. Many Chinese scholars were educated here in early 20th
century which lead the written Chinese language revolution.
