Taking a walk on two London’s Parks/Carlos Pueblo

Taking a walk on two London’s Parks/Carlos Pueblo
Kensington Park and Hyde Park are next to each other and passing
through Hyde Park Corner is Green Park of Buckingham Palace. St.
James Park is next to the Green Park. They are all inside the city of
Westminster, the former pair is larger than the later, and all can be
taking a walk within a day. There are white swans resting on lakes
and all parks are beautiful. After viewing Buckingham Guards Change,
the two ladies from Tainan took us to tour, Green Park, St. James,
Wellington Arch, Trafalgar Square, Household Calvary Museum ,
10 Downing Street, and to Westminster Abbey and Palace etc., all
inside the city limit and within walking distance.

Kensington and Hyde are the two parks which I have taken a walk for
Two days in my 10 days staying in London. After putting down my
Luggage, I took the Tube subway to South Kensington and walked toward
Albert and Victoria Museum. I missed an exit and ended up at Natural
History Museum. Keeping on walking, I came to Albert Hall and Albert
Square, the bright golden statue attracted me. This is the beginning of
Kensington Park. Prince Albert is the spouse of Queen Victoria and Victoria
had been on the throne for a long time with admirable achievement. The
Museum has abundant collection of gold, gold coins, jewelry, swards, and
precious art works etc. There are some small gardens inside the Park, such
as variety of tulips, some unknown  flowers, also on the trees. I walked down
to the lakeside path with several blooming flowering cherry trees. I recognize
the kind, Alkebono, means daybreak cherry , a derivative of Yoshino cherry
from Tokyo. It is two weeks late bloom in compare with Tidal Basin, Washington,
D.C.

White swans, group together, stick their neck to the lake water for food. Long Lake
has a lot of birds, such as ducks, geese, pigeons etc. flying up and down the lake.
I was sitting on a bench watching people feeding the birds. At the end of the lake is
Hyde Park Corner, you can see the busy intersection of Wellington Arch and others.
There is a roses garden under Queen Elizabeth’s name and also two weeks before
blooming time. Two Taiwanese ladies took us to the Corner to see the famous
political forum at Hyde Park, actually it was long gone nowadays. The old area is
marked, yet nothing left. There is a pavilion for bands to perform during summer
and a food stand now.

Two days later, I walked down to another entrance of the Park and under an Asian
Indian lady’s recommendation to visit Kensington Palace. It is really a pretty garden
And architecture, not far away, there is a Princess Diana’s Memorial.

Visiting Camden Lock, London/ Carlos Pueblo

Visiting Camden Lock, London/ Carlos Pueblo
Camden township is on the north of London, there is a canal connected
with the Royal Regent’s Park. We followed 100 free touring spots to have
a visit. We walked from the Park, passing through London Zoo, entered
downtown Camden. There is a Jewish center among a building. Camden
Looks like a worker’s town. Later in that summer, Amy Winehouse was
overdose and died at age 27, fans gathered at her flat at Camden Square.
She grew up at Camden and before her death, she had a hit song called
Rehab and she said that she was a bad girl. Camden becomes very prosperous,
There is a Camden Lock to monitor the water level. I walked on the canal bank
Toward the Park, found Queen Mary’s roses garden. I was three weeks early to
see the rose bloom. Through the Park, took Tube again back to Camden Lock
for lunch. Late afternoon, I was back to British Library to seek Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s
library legend of 1910 without any success yet ran into a group of soccer fans
from Birmingham, England.

People open the canal for food transportation. Waterway like Camden Lock is very
popular even in early American history such as northeast US . Many of these canals
become an area view point, for instance, our San Antonio Canal in Texas. Horses were
used to pull the boats before the combustion engines were developed. It becomes
very fancy nowadays, the canal has water taxi, house boat, restaurant boat etc. rided
along the canal. You can see the commercial buildings on one side of the bank and
the residential area on the other side. I even see a beautiful Chinese restaurant, Feng
Shang. Feng is a combined together boat, Shang is eating, both are classical Chinese
character. From this restaurant, the canal has two direction and I walked toward the
Park. Many pedestrian, joggers, and bikers were on the canal walk, some stopped to
chat with me. As a matter of fact, a small house boat for a single person would cost
600 British Pounds annually, while bigger one for two person costs 1,000 Pounds.
The house boat can land on a pier anywhere all over English canals; however, I did
see a sign that not over a week on this canal, otherwise a fine of 25 pounds daily.
I was calculating at basic cost of a house boat in compare with to put up a night
in a hostel.

There is a bridge across the dike to the Park. It is very large park indeed, I can not
Walk through in every detail. I did find the roses garden in honor to Queen Mary.
I was very impressed when I first visit to this garden in early March 4 years ago.
Roses buds just began to sprout in purple color, and in May, leaves and branches were
green yet were still three weeks early for the full bloom. I have missed twice for its
beauty. The garden is managed by a citizen horticultural club. It is also a very large
garden indeed.

There is a Regent’s lake attract many birds, large and small. I was sitting on a
chair and watching the busy activity among birds. All was beautiful. I walked
some more in the Park and then exit to another township. I did run into the
British Library, yet it is not the one legend of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s refugee stay
In London Library. The librarian told me if the legend was true that indeed
should be on the basement of the British Museum at Russell Square.

I took the Tube back to Camden, back to Camden Lock. The International
Market was open for business and you could see the crowded place. I
Bought a plate of rice and found a seat under the bridge on the bank of
the canal with many other tourists. The pigeons were coming close for food.
There was a fashion store facing the Lock with three story of Singer machines
Which were all locked up safely in a huge glass window.

Visiting Cambridge, England/ Carlos Pueblo

Visiting Cambridge, England/ Carlos Pueblo

At the final day in London, I decided to visit Cambridge, again, I returned
to Victoria Station and also another two hours bus ride. I ran into three
young Chinese girls students, Cheng Ru Shea, Pan Tang , and Ya Wen Hsiao,
all came from Singapore yet their Mandarin Chinese is perfect. Then I learned
that they were from southern province of Fuchien. I attempted my Amoy and
gave up when one told me that they were from Fuchou area and not quite
comfortable of speaking Fuchou dialect. They agreed to me for following them
at Cambridge, so, we walked toward the city center and stopped for lunch in
a busy market. I ordered the same vegetable falahal and they were for Thai noodle.
Two of them are studying in London, one at the Royal College of Economic at
Regent Park; the other one is at Trinity University, the third one who comes to visit
London is studying at Singapore.

The architecture between City of Cambridge and Oxford is slightly different, I
Think that Cambridge is not so luxury as Oxford, yet there is a pretty canal
inside the campus. This is a so called the shadow upside down at Cambridge
in early spoken Chinese literature to describe Cambridge. They were prepared
to have a punting tour on the canal which was hiring a small boat for one hour.
A punt is a flat boat with a long pool stick to the bottom of the canal to move
the boat. Three ladies were in the front and took turn to stick the pool while
I sat at the end to control the direction with a plastic raft. Only me has some
Row boat and canoe experience; however, we did manage to finish one hour
period. When the punt was more stable and in control, one lady started playing
a banjo like instrument which was very romantic. None of them were music
major. We walked along the bank of unfinished canal, I did find a small grove
of blooming  Akebono cherry, this was the fourth place this year that I saw this
kind of flowering cherry.

I said farewell to them because of returned bus schedule. I was lost on my way
back to downtown in a big cathedral due to a closed alley. I followed the incoming
route out. Cambridge is famous for science and Darwin is one of the famous
alumni. I always like to visit universities and Cambridge and Oxford are a surprise
during this trip to London.

The return bus went through a different route to London. I did not see the new
Modern building, instead, several old townships, then, following the Thames,
London Castle, entering Westminster.
