Watching an old Japanese movie, Wife! Be like a rose!/Carlos Pueblo

Literally, the Kanji edition of the original title of this piece of movie written by

Minoru Nagano and directed by Mikio Naruse is Two wives of a man. The original

Wife and two children live in Tokyo while the second wife and another younger

Children live at a small mountain village near Nagano on the Japanese Alps. I have

been very impressed with the story narrated by the first daughter Kimiko and the

drama illustrated on the movie with traditional sense of humor. The scenery of

1935 Japan reminds me my childhood hometown of Puli, Taiwan and my recent

trip to Japan including Nagano. Kimiko’s mother is a poet with noble class thinking

of life while her father is an adventurer not quite reach such philosophical level.

One day while on a way out to a movie with her boyfriend and future husband, Seiji,

on a taxi, she saw an unbelievable scene, her father’s walking on a Tokyo street.  

She stopped the taxi and lost her search for her Dad on the street. She went home

reporting to her Mom and prepared a feast for the expected reunion. He didn’t

show up that night.

She is determined to go to the far away mountain village to get her Dad back, 1^st for

the reason for him to visit Seiji’s parents in order to complete the wedding requirement

according to then Japanese custom, secondly, to get him out of the misery of his second

wife and reunited with her mother. She finds his new family, wife and two younger

children. She witness the harmony of the family. The second wife, Oyuki, is a hairdresser

and daughter, Shizue, is a seamstress both support the family while her father is fuctionally

unemployed. She also found out that their monthly money order from the village is actually

from Oyuki and Shizue. She decides to ask her Dad to return to the village after coming back

to Tokyo.

I believe that Japanese civilization has been very advanced in compare with the rest of the

world. I get to know something about Enka, a popular hit songs full of nostalgia; Japanese

Samurai movies and the War-era drama; Japanese vehicles and high speed rail, etc. This

classical movies of modern time remind me very much of the old Taiwan where I have had

my childhood and I regret very much that I don’t see any recollection while I make a visit.

I also like to read and write; however, I don’t know if I can reach to such level and I doubt

that I can see this kind of product on current day Hollywood.

網誌上有許多影片，包括日本老電影，這些老電影，有些甚至有英譯，幾週

前寫遊記，順便重溫舊片，伊豆之舞娘，這是川端康成短篇小說改編，有幾

版本，最近觀看到之日本老電影，也是昭和早期之黑白片，由成瀨己喜男所

導演之幾片，剛好有一美國女客戶好奇，詢問到我印象最深之一片，她想到

網誌上觀閱，於是我提到二人妻，大蓋描述一下劇情，也藉此文推薦給我之

世界各地讀者。我出生在戰後第二年，家中之生活環境，就像一般樸素之日

本家庭，口語使用是閩南語，但許多家用字彙，確是日語，母親有過日本國

校教育，父親多五年職業學校，耳濡目染，都是日本精神，從小對日本，就

印象深刻。

二人妻，是一夫雙妻之家庭故事，第一任家庭，居住在東京，有一男一女，

長男已就業，，在外居住，長女也有工作，但與母親同住，母親是位詩人，

長女已有對象，而且論及婚嫁，按當年風俗，女方父親，需扮說媒角色，穿

針引線，此為其中之難，因此婚因此婚姻擱置。每個月，總有一信來自長野

附近，內夾一張30日圓支票，不附一語，長女月薪劇中有交待是35日圓，

男友45日圓，她相信此為父親之安家費。

一日，與男友搭車到城中看電影，途中看到父親蹤影，連忙下車追趕不果，

回家後鼎告母親，剛好舅父也來通告，舅媽證實店面碰到父親一事，於是一

家人等候父親，回家晚餐，父親離家已經17年矣，當夜父親並未歸來。

於是女兒決定，親赴長野鄉下尋父，將父親帶回，我剛從日本旅行回來，住

松本，進出長野幾次，日本阿爾卑斯山脈之美，非常深刻，這是1935年影片

，山景就像埔里，我十歲前，僅搭過兩班卡車巴士，一直到十歲，始有機會，

搭上火車，影片中之鏡頭，帶來我無限無價之美憶。

自離家後，父親和這位妻室，隱居鄉野，生育一女一男，女兒與母親開設理髮

店謀生，父親無所是事，那每月30圓匯票，完全是這位小姨媽之善意。觀察一

日後，帶父親回東京，幫忙自己婚事，她衡量母親和這位小姨媽，自己兄妹和

長野鄉下之小妹弟，她主張父親回鄉下。

日本文明進步，全球尊重，其來有自，我不再常有機會，欣賞如此動人影片。

Respecting the law/Carlos Pueblo

Recently, I have been watching political video on Youtube, mainly MSNBC and CNN.

It has been all about Donald Trump, the incumbent President of the United States.

There are many sources of information filled with these video programs to be like a

life show every day with various producers, actors, drama, and logic, etc. Of course,

Trump is the principle actor and his long time private lawyer and fixer is a supporting

Actor, and many more lawyers on both side to drill this rule of law and the separation

of power of this great Nation. I am amazed with a conclusion that in order to make

American Democracy, we, the people must respect the law including the one on the

top. Without the leader as well as the regular to respect and obey the law, the system

will not work, like driving a vehicle on the road without observing the traffic rule and

law, the road will not be safe, in other word, the country is not safe and prosperous if

the law is ignored.

I once studied a piece of Chinese history about the first written rule of law in ancient

China. The philosopher recommended a basic law system to rule one of the 7 warlord

during that time to improve the political system. In a result of such rule of law, that

warlord nation conquered the rest warlord to establish the 1^st united China. Basically,

the same book of law has passed on the later Chinese Dynasties. I don’t know about

Beijing’s China; however, Taiwan’s copy of constitution still contains some of those

logic and rule. It is very backward and not allowed to make an amendment. After I watch

the video of the current daily episode, I notice that the American law derived from the

British is more in details and comprehensive in order to be presented in front of a jury or

a judge. I admire the system.

Why the video is so attractive to me? Because that it is covered all kinds of dishonesty,

corruption, sex relationship and cover up, and foreign interference of an U.S. Presidential

Election, etc. I like to watch lawyers to present their proof and argument. During the

detail explanation of the legal procedures, I understand the advanced of such system of

the American rule of law and separation of powers and realize why the U.S. is the greatest

among all. Donald Trump will eventually surrender in front of the law whether he respects

it or not.

In Taiwan, I have been waiting for a long time to see the corrupted Chinese Nationalists be

prosecuted and finally there is a 1^st sentence of a 4 month jail time delivered. Of course,
Taiwan is far behind the U.S. in rule of law and I expect the improvement as long as we

keep the western democratic system.

最近專注於網誌節目，美國和台灣政治談話，其中涉及法治要素，官員之守法

問題，美國是川普總統，台灣是馬英九前總統，和台大校長瑕疵案，均與守法

有關，每日我均認真上課，設法了解三權分立制度，美國輿論發達，人才濟濟

，說謊違法者，常無所頓形，台灣則進展牛步，一件洩密案，八年後始判刑，

法治基礎薄弱。

川普之爭議許多，今日一爆，解除中東卡達禁運，被懐疑與其女婿親家，房地

產有關，前一日，又要商業部長，解除中國之中興企業，中興違法出售仿製美

國電子晶片，給禁運之伊朗和北韓，原來習進平貸款五億美元，給印尼雅加達

遊樂塲，其中包括川普之大飯店和高爾夫球塲，川普認為美國異議者，都是笨

蛋。

再前一日，紐約時報揭露，有官員看不慣有人營私，將兩件有疑問之銀行案件

刪除，故洩漏第三件，給一控訴遮羞私密契約無效之女方律師，非常戲劇化之

曝露川普私人律師，私募捐款，給付遮羞款之事實，川普㑹計師，連忙申報今

年公務員財務報告，將此款列入支出，但已為遲一年，財政部紀律主管，已行

文提交法務部查辦，一國之主，說謊成性，行為不檢，違法亂紀，真是令人遺

憾。

先講台大自治法，選出一位準校長，，教育部認為有五項瑕疵，其一為非法兼

職校外私人公司企業，獨立董事，該公司副董事長，又是校長遴選委員之一，

準校長和台大，均不理會教育部解釋要求，當事人也不作任何說明，因此，該

怎麼做，就怎麼做，就是依法行事，歴史共業之中國說法，五四運動，罷工罷

課，都是腐朽不堪。

馬英九終於犯法，但尚不認罪，第二案訴訟三中案，已經使用緘默權，我相信

檢察官，有如此多之時間，如此多之人證物證，不難水落石出，另外五大弊案

，台北市銀案，木柵國發院民宅土地案，此尾之大，堪稱台灣之最，讓大巨蛋

破產，勢必逼出姦商口供。

About the Mid-term election in Taiwan/Carlos Pueblo

We value the democratic system very much in Taiwan and every election of this

great Nation is so exciting for people like me as a Taiwanese. Mid-term election

this year in November will be for all the local officers, executive and legislative

branches of cities and counties. The Mayor of Taipei City is the most attractive

campaign of all. The incumbent is Dr. Wen-jer Ko, the independent affiliation

of two major political parties in Taiwan. He is facing a different challenge with

his previous campaign without a united front with the opposition Democratic

Progressive Party at that time. He is fighting along with most of his original

supporters who are the DPP affiliate,  the Chinese Nationalists, and young voters.

His re-election effort will be endangered if the DPP nominate a person to split his

votes to benefit the Chinese Nationalist. That means the mayor of the Capital

City will go back to the Chinese Nationalist.

It is very precious for Taiwanese to actually overthrow the Chinese Nationalist

Authoritarian rule in Taiwan. Under the Chinese rule, Taiwan was never free

at all. I can imagine that the Chinese Nationalist, KMT, is anxious to get back to

power; therefore, divide and conquer is at play all the time. Taiwanese media

is constantly manipulated by the old Chinese Nationalist machine in addition to

the current Beijing’s propaganda. The DPP critic of Ko is that he says both sides

of  the Straight are closed family which agitates some fundamental supporters

of Taiwan Independent. Also, they question that he cannot or ignore the value

question of Taiwan posted by the lady President Tsai. I have followed his philosophy

, campaign speeches, and books, etc. I know that his Value of Taiwan Nation is very

clear, is the western model of democracy, freedom of speech, rule of law, market

economic, and the respect of human right, absolutely not the current Chinese

Communist political system in China.

There is an old Chinese proverb about a crane and a clam stuck into a fight and a

fisherman picks them both eventually. I am afraid of the development of campaign

may come to that conclusion, KMT be the fisherman to return controlling the Capital

City. All the Chinese corruption shall be return as well.

今年台灣地方選舉，在半年後舉行，我開始注意台北市長局，我以為柯市長連

任，應該毫無問題，然而自我張貼網誌節目，幾乎一面倒，懐疑其變節，民進

黨將自行提名後選人，寧可讓中國國民黨，漁翁得利，也不願見柯市長連任，

要逼柯在兩年後，與蔡英文火拚，如法泡製，台灣勢力分裂，中國人勢力復辟

，此為我所不願見者也，予豈好辯哉？予不得已也。台灣價値說，為柯所謂不

及格者，最為罪不可赦，我深不以為然，幾個月前，我曾發文，根據柯之著作

書籍，演講內容等，歸納為，自由，民主，法治，和人權，這是普世，但不包

括當今中國之價値，後來他被進逼追問，擠出民進黨口號，勤政清廉愛台灣，

仍然不是正確答案，有台北市名嘴市議員曰，正確答案是，台灣價値是，台灣

是一主權獨立之國家，蔡英文如此提問三次，給柯機會，如此苛責於人？

台北市，經過三位非中國國民黨籍市長，高玉樹，陳水扁，和柯文哲，高分兩

次選上市長，任內蔣介石廢除市長選舉，但市長職，仍派台籍黨人擔任，一直

到天龍國之，馬英九和郝龍斌，台籍天王如謝長廷和蘇貞昌，都在台北市敗陣

，所以柯在2014年，說服蔡英文主席，而且也舉日本東京都知事局為例，大都

會局，避免政黨對立，無獨有偶，休士頓市人口一百七十萬，市長局不涉及兩

黨。

馬英九和郝龍斌兩市長，在第一任期內，已經涉及貪污訴訟多件，柯市長有乎？

柯市長有一件貪贓枉法案件？這些輿論界和中國之統戰，在台灣分化台灣價値，

只是台灣人不自知耳。中國人官員貪污，這是中華文化，中國人到台灣，也都

繼承貪污文化，而且發揚光大，柯市長日台灣人中，少數耳濡目染，日本精神者

也，頭腦好，又潔身自愛，勤政愛民，中國人有微言，我尚可原諒，假藉兩岸一

家親，就是賣台不爽，我真是是可忍，熟不可忍？

我在兩艘郵輪上，認收十餘位中國姑娘為女，非常親切，我討厭者為中國共產黨

，和中國政府對台灣之無禮，所以遷怒到台灣之中國人，民進黨要與柯市長分裂

，玉石皆焚，我萬以為不智，一切要阻擋中國國民黨人，重新掌權為要務，我們

可以慢慢等待，中國政府將瓦解，台灣在民進黨和柯市長合作下，邁向前程。

Separation of Powers at play in the U.S./Carlos Pueblo

After finishing my journal of Japanese trip, I have been hocked with political

events both in the United States and Taiwan. As an enthusiastic observer in

political affairs, I must admit that I learn a lot of the separation of powers at

play in the U.S. during the current days. It is about Donald Trump, the new

U.S. President. A lawyer of an actress claimed to have a one night affair with

him issued a 7 pages memo to expose his private attorney’s corporate bank

account and questioned the in and out flow of funds on that account. Many

corporations have since confirmed such contribution of funds and some

explanation and follow up reasons to separate the relationship between this

private attorney of the President and the President himself.

The reasons why this nation is so great of all time is the separation of powers,

executive branch such as the President and his administration; the legislative   

branch such as the congress and the senate; judiciary branch such as every level

of courts system. Trump’s fiasco has involved almost every powers of this nation,

a special counsel has been appointed and functioned just one year duration to

investigate his election collusion with Russia by the department of Justice, a

branch of the administration. Both House and Senate committee are investigate

this matter as well even though not significant due to partisanship. States and

individual file lawsuit all over the nation to challenge the President and his policy.

One of the lawsuit, Stormy Daniels non-disclosure agreement with Trump, catches

my attention.

The U.S. Presidency is very powerful in compare with previous emperors of dynasty

of the world, especially for an unorthodox President likes Trump. The second power

is firmly under his party’s control and more than 50% of the judge among all levels.

There is this Daniels attorney who believes the impossible and make such a small

issue to fight a possible war. I compare this to an old Chinese proverb, unstable road

help from the sword, a kind of standing up against injustice. This lawyer explain his

courts procedure, his logic, and their purpose with the cable television interview.

This is very helpful for me to understand the power play of the American politic

and the rule of law, better than the television episode, Rules and laws, etc.

I am not quite sure if this drama like political activity will be ended in which direction,

yet I am sure that is a part of my daily life to witness the fundamental knowledge of

modern advanced political system, how to make a nation great under the separation

of powers.
